Job Description

Department:

UMBCs College of Natural Mathematics and Science Programs at USM Shady Grove

Overview:

The Associate Dean will serve as the Executive Director for USG Operations. This role is responsible for administering the daytoday operations of CNMS satellite programs which are presently the undergraduate Translational Life Sciences Technology (TLST) program and MPS: Biotechnology at UMBC at the Universities at Shady Grove.

This role will foster relationships with Shady Grove Administration and UMBC to collaboratively administer programs with the goal of program expansion. This will be accomplished with support from UMBCs CNMS Dean Department of Professional Studies interaction with Local Community Colleges connecting with Local Biotech Businesses and providing leadership to the Undergraduate and Graduate Program Directors.

Note: This position is located at the Universities at Shady Grove located in Rockville Maryland.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include:

Program Governance

  • Oversee operational administration of CNMS satellite programs and serve as an advocate for all CNMS satellite programs
  • Develop and implement goals for each program
  • Oversee program and course assessments and evaluations
  • Collaborate with Division of Professional Studies and UMBCShady Grove administration
  • Fiscal responsibility includes understanding budget program growth funding

Instruction

  • Communicate with USG administration for classroom assignments and laboratory operations; including scheduling classes each semester
  • Communicate the programmatic needs to the Division of Professional Studies and CNMS
  • Update curriculum in compliance with the standards of CNMS and UMBC
  • Support policies associated with the college professional and universitys academic integrity
  • Teach one or more courses each semester as needed in core curricular areas


Faculty Affairs

  • Participate in the recruitment and selection of instructional faculty and/or staff
  • Encourage faculty to communicate ideas for improving the programs
  • Assign faculty responsibilities such as teaching program service advising and so forth

Student Activities

  • Coordinate with Graduate Undergraduate Program Directors to recruit students for the USG programs (e.g. TLST and MPS: Biotechnology) through information sessions open houses classroom visits at local community colleges and related events etc.
  • Assist in the advising of students as needed every semester to review their academic progress approve their educational schedules and provide recommendations for their longterm educational goals.
  • Prepare students for graduation requirements
  • Work with CNMSrelated student organizations

External Communication

  • Improve and maintain the programs image and reputation
  • Initiate and maintain liaison and recruitment with external agencies and institutions
  • Process program correspondence and requests for information
  • Manage CNMS USG program Advisory Boards (e.g. TLST and Biotechnologys)
  • Complete articulation agreements with MC FCC HC and other local community college biotech programs to enhance the student pipeline into UMBC.
  • Promoting collaboration and partnerships with local biotech companies and universities that have similar programs
Required Minimum Qualifications:Requires a PhD in Chemical Engineering Biochemistry or other Life Sciences disciplines. Minimum three years teaching experience.Background Screening Statement:

Salary:

Salary: $120000 $150000 depending on qualifications and experience.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors including but not limited to internal equity budget prior experience skills knowledge abilities education licensure and certifications and other business considerations.

The above salary range represents the Universitys good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
