Position Summary:
This position provides leadership for the Colleges ambitious research program. This role works closely and collaboratively with faculty department chairs and staff and represents the College with internal and external constituencies. This position requires an innovative and strategic thinker who can build consensus among a diverse faculty and prioritize college investments in research and who is committed to others achieving success through the process of research and discovery. This role requires a strong background in research relevant to College of Computing exhibited by successful independent and/or collaborative research and/or through leadership of large complex research programs. This position requires fluency with federal state not for profit industrial gift and other extramural sources of research funding and is familiar with the commercialization process.
Salary & Benefits:
Minimum starting salary of $165000 commensurate with experience
Primary Duties
Mentoring faculty (especially junior faculty) on research career planning and issues.
Providing leadership and oversight for the research committee of the college.
Overseeing the research budget and its programs including seed funding.
Evaluating research center opportunities.
Overseeing the Colleges research centers.
Fostering collaborative interdisciplinary research between departments and between the College and other Colleges at GVSU.
Working with the Assistant Dean for Finance to create research financial projections for management and planning purposes.
Implementing the research aspects of the Colleges new strategic plan.
Working with other university research leadership on strategic research partnerships.
Representing the College on research matters with the University.
Perform other duties as required/assigned by leadership.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
An earned PhD or the equivalent in computing or related fields and an outstanding research record commensurate with a full Professor.
Experience managing large research programs such as centers departments and large and complex research grants.
The ability to elevate the research enterprise at College of Computing including a focus on faculty research mentorship and training.
Strong team leadership and communication skills excellent interpersonal abilities.
Innovative and creative ideas for success in a changing landscape of research funding.
Interest in mentoring faculty and creating new research opportunities through networking.
Familiarity with federal grant finance and compliance issues.
Experience with applied research including building industry partnerships
Experience evaluating research proposals.
Excellent decisionmaking and problemsolving skills.
An ability to develop and implement strategies to address longterm opportunities.
