THIS IS A NEW ASSEMBLED EXAMINATION. The eligible list resulting from this examination will cancel any existing list and may last approximately one year but can be extended.

DESCRIPTION


THE AGENCY
Zone 7 Water Agency is located in the TriValley region of the eastern San Francisco Bay Area. It provides water on a wholesale basis to the cities of Pleasanton Livermore Dublin and the Dougherty Valley area of San Ramon and floodprotection services to all of eastern Alameda County. Zone 7 employs approximately 116 fulltime employees and operates on an annual budget of $80.3 million dollars. The Agencys administrative offices are located in Livermore CA the easternmost city of Alameda County which is bordered by Contra Costa County to the north and San Joaquin County to the east. Livermore Californias oldest wine region is known for the science and technology of its national laboratories a historic downtown area and the surrounding farmlands and ranches that mirror the Valleys western heritage.

THE POSITION
Under general supervision to perform a variety of office and field subprofessional engineering duties; to establish and maintain detailed and interrelated engineering and hydrological recordkeeping systems; to coordinate and operate special programs; and to perform related work as required.

Water Resources Technician II is the journey level in the series. Incumbents perform the full range of moderate to difficult subprofessional engineering or water resources technician duties. Incumbents may be assigned responsibility for a specific program within their area of specialization and may assist in the training of lowerlevel Technicians.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


Experience: The equivalent of one year of fulltime experience in the class of Water Resources Technician I Zone 7.
OR II

Education: Completion of sixty semester units of college level studies with emphasis in engineering mathematics and/or science.

AND

Experience: The equivalent of two years of fulltime experience in subprofessional engineering or water resources work.

OR III

Experience: The equivalent of three years of fulltime increasingly responsible subprofessional engineering or water resources work.

License: Possession of a valid California Drivers license.

NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

The most suitably qualified candidates will possess the following competencies:

Knowledge of:
Elementary principles of engineering as applied to the area of assignment including design construction and inspection.
Fundamental principles of hydrology and water resources.
Data collection and sampling methods and equipment.
Surveying and drafting methods and equipment.
Mathematics and algebra.
Modern office methods procedures and equipment.
Computer software applications related to the work.
Codes regulations and standards related to the area of assignment.

Abilities:
Reading reviewing interpreting and/or preparing engineering drawings plans specifications and various technical documents.
Working cooperatively with the public contractors other agencies and others while exercising enforcement responsibilities.
Reading interpreting analyzing and processing maps legal descriptions regulations survey data contracts and agreements and a variety of technical documents related to area of assignment.
Gathering and compiling data and information and preparing accurate technical reports and documents.
Performing accurate mathematical calculations.
Communicating and working effectively with a variety of individuals agencies and organizations.
Properly using equipment tools and instruments related to area of assignment including those used for surveying and drafting.
Operating computer systems to meet work unit needs.
Maintaining complete and accurate records.
Collecting computing and analyzing hydrologic data.
Performing basic maintenance and repair of electronic measuring and recording devices.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Some positions must be willing and able to work in exposure to potential chemical mechanical and/or electrical hazards and/or outdoors in all weather conditions. Some positions require agility strength and endurance sufficient to access and investigate sites such as remote wells mining pits steep channels deep and/or rapid waters etc.
