Assistant Professor Music Theory

The David L. Walters Department of Music at Jacksonville State University invites applications for a fulltime tenuretrack position as an Assistant Professor in music theory beginning August 2025. The primary duties of the successful candidate will be to teach courses in the core undergraduate Music Theory curriculum. The Department welcomes applications from candidates qualified to teach in the Western classical canon. Other teaching areas may include nonWestern music and/or popular or commercial music. The successful candidate will accomplish scholarly/creative activity sufficient for tenure and advancement and engage in appropriate service.

Position Requirements

The successful candidate must have a doctorate in music theory or a related field. ABD will be considered with the expectation that the degree will be completed on or before August 1 2025. The selected candidate must also possess a strong record of creative activity and/or scholarly accomplishments appropriate to the level of appointment. Demonstrated excellence and achievement in musicianship and performance skills are also required.
