Chief Systems Engineer (Permanent)
Victoria BC; Ottawa ON; Halifax NS
Expected Salary: $108558 to $156806
Underpinned by a deep understanding of technology integration asset management and specialist training Babcock International works with customers around the world to improve the capability reliability and availability of their most critical assets within the key market sectors of Marine Land Aviation and Nuclear.
In Canada Babcock works in the Marine sector where our teams provide critical and complex support to Canadas submarine fleet. Our Canadian team is proud to be trusted to deliver key naval inservice support for the Royal Canadian Navy. We also operate in the Aviation sector where Babcock ensures that the aircrew trainees of our partner nations receive the worlds best flying training. We deliver vital aerial emergency services and are proud to have been selected by the Government of Manitoba to deliver their wildfire suppression services as well as key components of their critical air ambulance services.

In this role you will:
- Take a growthoriented approach to help build the use of Systems Engineering Principles for project and product delivery within Babcock Canadas Land Aviation and Marine sectors;
- Plan and support internal Systems Engineering governance and verification activities and be a champion for the introduction of Systems Engineering processes;
- Be proactively involved across the organization and throughout the Systems Engineering product lifecycle providing engineering domain knowledge and guidance to institute Systems Engineering best practices from across the Babcock International Group;
- Mentor or lead multidisciplinary teams of engineers and technologists in the development design and integration of engineering solutions for new or existing systems;
- Provide assurance for the quality and accuracy of engineering project or product outputs throughout the engineering project lifecycle ranging from requirements definition through to product delivery and inservice support;
- Support the identification and prioritisation of tasks in collaboration with program managers customers and internal stakeholders and bring your experience in delivering projects to support the planning monitoring and delivery of engineering projects to the required quality time and cost;
- Influence and inject Systems Engineering principles and processes during early stage solution development to reduce technical risk and maximize customer benefits;
- Maintain effective partnerships with a wide variety of stakeholders including external stakeholders customers and other internal technical teams; and
- Act as a Systems Engineering Subject Matter Expert providing thought leadership within Babcock Canada and communicating Systems Engineering subjects issues solutions and risks to all stakeholders (i.e. technical and nontechnical stakeholders).
The ideal candidate brings:
- An engineering degree from an accredited Canadian educational institute or from a recognized foreign equivalent;
- A Professional Engineer (. licence in good standing with current registration or immediate eligibility to register in Canada;
- Extensive experience 15 years) as an engineer in a highintegrity engineering environment;
- Significant experience 10 years) relevant to Systems Engineering and technical product development and delivery;
- Proven leadership skills through significant experience 10 years) leading technical teams and delivering technical projects;
- Deep understanding and proven experience in the application of Systems Engineering Principles to the design lifecycle;
- Experience in the physical and functional integration of systems within a Defence environment is considered an asset; and
- Strong demonstrable leadership qualities and excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with others at all levels within the organization and often without direct or formal authority.
