Summary/Objective:

The primary duties of the Biosolids Lift Station Technician are to participate in the safe effective and compliant operation of the Citys Wastewater Lift Stations and Biosolids Farm operation by completing the preventative diagnostic and emergency asset maintenance. This position may also assist with beneficial reuse of biosolids produced at the Citys Wastewater Treatment Plant by the safe handling and land application of biosolids as needed.


Essential Functions:

Performs maintenance activities all city lift stations grinder pump stations facility/station grounds and Biosolids Farm by assisting the Biosolids/Lift Station Supervisor and/or the Senior Biosolids/Lift Station Technician.

  • Contributes to successful operations by ensuring the proper preventative maintenance routine inspection servicing repair or replacement of Biosolids and Lift Station assets.
  • May perform monitoring and reporting activities related to the Citys compliance with the Clean Water Act EPA Biosolids 503 Regulations.
  • Operates and troubleshoots Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition (SCADA) assets.
  • Assists with performing routing visual/diagnostic checks inspections preventative maintenance troubleshooting and basic repair for various common wastewater treatment plant lift station Biosolids Farm equipment and machinery assets including but not limited to pumps air compressors blowers mixers motors generators variable frequency drives and other electrical gear electronic SCADA components HVAC units and programmable logic controllers
  • Collects weekly flow and hour readings of lift station equipment for entry into spreadsheets.
  • Performs sampling monitoring and reporting activities related to the Citys compliance with the Clean Water Act EPA Biosolids 503 Regulations.
  • Contribute to the health and safety protection of the city by monitoring Lift Station control system operations and makes necessary adjustments.
  • Reads and understands operational manuals (O&Ms) electrical drawings and schematics to make required repairs of equipment.
  • Reviews interprets and analyzes laboratory data and maintains records of monitoring data application areas and gallons applied.

Performs additional duties as required

  • Attends meetings and training.
  • Manages stress brought about by interacting with potentially irate and/or defensive customers or adjoining property owners
  • Assists in the management and care of the riparian tree belt as needed
  • Assists other departmental personnel in other projects for the benefit of the City and/or the Department of Utilities.
  • Performs assigned duties in the event of an emergency and performs oncall duties to complete troubleshooting maintenance and repairs for wastewater treatment facilities equipment after normal business hours.
  • Assists other departmental personnel in other projects for the benefit of the City and/or the Department.
  • Ensures compliancy with all applicable city regulations policies and procedures.
  • Ability to be oncall.
Requirements

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma GED or equivalent.
  • Valid drivers license.
  • Certification as Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator Class I or above issued by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment or the ability to obtain certification within 18 months of employment.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Two 2 years of experience as operating or maintaining machinery and equipment in a comparable position.
  • Certification as Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator Class II or above issued by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
  • Certification as Biosolids Land Applier Certification Class I or higher issued by the Kansas Water Environment Association
  • Heavy equipment operation and maintenance experience.
  • Safety and Emergency Training: NMS training Basic Level Courses Hazardous Communication Training Lockout/Tagout Training; CPR and First Aid Training Confined Space and Shoring/Trenching Competent Person Certification Electrical Safety and Climbing and Fall Protection Training.
