MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a high school diploma or GED or one year of experience in any field plus:
Three years of experience in a residential correctional behavioral health or group home setting with responsibility for one or more of the following: rehabilitation of delinquent youth clinical care custody or security; OR
Three years of experience in Probation and Parole.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
In accordance with the Prison Elimination Act (PREA) (Part 115:17 of Title 28 of the Code of Federal Regulations an applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse; engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force overt or implied threats of force or coercion or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused will be disqualified.Job Concepts

JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from other lower Juvenile Justice Specialist jobs in that functional supervision is exercised over all facility staff in regard to investigative procedures.
Differs from Juvenile Justice Specialist 6 by the absence of responsibility for managing a major unit of the facility. Examples of Work

Serves as chief investigator.
Reviews disciplinary actions against youth and staff.
Establishes and conducts education and training programs for numerous and varying safety related job programs.
Serves as a safety officer coordinating safety programs for the unit in which it serves. Develops policies as related to safety.
Compiles accident statistics and hazards data; records trends using computer programming and hazard abatement.
Participates in American Correctional Association (ACA) audits.
Participates in the development of policies and procedures for the security and treatment programs at the facility.
Prepares and reviews reports of facility activities and may determine course of action.
Serves as a training officer.
Assist shift supervisor of higher level in a large unit.
