ABOUT THE TOWN OF EL DORADO HILLS

Nestled along Highway 50 in the lower Sierra Nevada foothills in western El Dorado County the unincorporated community of El Dorado Hills enjoys the kind of location that Californians dream about. Those with a more relaxed sense of recreation may also enjoy the rich Gold Rush history Apple Hill and over 100 wineries and breweries.

ABOUT EL DORADO HILLS FIRE DEPARTMENT

The El Dorado Hills Fire Department was formed in 1963 and is led by five elected board members. It employs more than 80 employees that include fire suppression emergency medical services fire prevention and administrative personnel. The department is an allrisk department that provides fire protection and emergency medical services 24 hours a day 7 days a week. All stations are a designated Safe Place for children and adults that are in danger as well as Safe Surrender for babies. In addition the department is involved with community services and events. To ensure the safety of our youngest citizens our Fire Department conducts a Buckle Up Baby Program to ensure car seats are inspected for proper installation. Residents can also participate in our Life Jacket Loaner Safety Program so that swimming boating and watersport enthusiasts who find themselves without life jackets can borrow a life jacket to enjoy a safe day on the water. Every holiday season our premier event known as the Santa Run is a weeklong joyous event that brings Santa Mrs. Claus and the running elves to many neighborhoods and designated locations to collect toys for Shriners Hospital and food for families in need all while spreading cheer and handing out candy canes to participants.

• Receives information from dispatch regarding location and type of incident as well as other relevant information; assists staff in determining the location of emergency.
• Responds to alarms as a member of a fire apparatus crew; connects and lays fire hose lines and operating nozzles; enters burning areas and structures with charged hose lines; operates and climbs fire ladders; searches for and locates victims trapped in burning smokefilled structures; cuts lifts or pries open vehicles machinery or enclosed areas to free persons trapped; carries or assists victims down ladders or stairs using drags cots or improvised equipment and proper lifting techniques.
• Locates fire sources and extinguishes fires; smothers fires or potential fire restart areas using hand tools; and identifies contains removes or protects flammable or hazardous materials at fire scenes.
• Conducts a survey of the scene for safety and size up and determines appropriateness of onscene treatment versus immediate transport; determines and implements treatment protocol and appropriate transport category.
• Receives and follows orders and verbal instructions from officer at fire scene under conditions of stress noise heat and confusion.
• Wears appropriate personal protective equipment including a helmet turnout and wildland gear gloves boots according to medical protocols to protect against infectious disease and serious injury.
• Questions patients or others to gather patient information to determine nature and extent of medical emergency and treatment needed; communicating with other units or persons via radio or cell phone to relay status of patient medical information and request for additional assistance.
• Administers the appropriate treatment medication and dosage at scene and while enroute to hospital (basic and advanced life support); communicates relevant patient and incident information as needed; completes forms and medical reports related to medical and rescue emergencies.
• Safely drives and operates department vehicles including ambulances air units water tenders and other apparatus.
• Calms emotionally distressed victims relatives friends and spectators at emergency scenes.
• Attends daily or periodic training sessions in station and participates in discussions and demonstrations.
• Makes forced entries into grounds or buildings by climbing walls or fences; cuts locks chains and bolts to gain entry to locked areas; breaks or cuts down doors windows walls or roofs using hand and power tools.
• Secures incident site by directing traffic and clearing bystanders from the incident scene.
• Utilizes selfcontained breathing apparatus (SCBA) to protect from smoke inhalation and toxic fumes while fighting fires or when entering any IDLH atmosphere.
• Operates various tools (e.g. axe pry tools saws shovels) for overhaul at emergency scene and wildland firefighting.
• Operates twoway radio in order to communicate with dispatcher and/or fireground.
• Participates in drills and other training activities to ensure knowledge of required and expected actions tools and equipment.
• Speaks to public groups and conducts fire prevention and education programs.
• Inspects cleans and properly secures firefighting tools and equipment for readiness on apparatus.
• Perform related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

• High School diploma or equivalent GED certificate is required.

• Must be at least eighteen 18 years of age.
• Must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
• Must possess and maintain a valid (unrestricted) California Drivers License Class C. Must obtain DMV Firefighter Endorsement including tank and air brake endorsement required by the end of the probationary period.
• California State Firefighter I Certificate.
• EMTP Certification/Licensure.
• American Heart Association CPR (Healthcare) ACLS and PALS(PEPP) Certification.
• Firefighter II Certificate must be obtained within one 1 year of appointment as a condition of employment.
• Upon hire candidates must complete and maintain El Dorado County Paramedic Accreditation as a condition of employment.
• Candidate CalJAC Physical Ability Test (CPAT) Certification achieved within the last twelve 12 months.
• Respiratory Protective Equipment: Work in this classification requires the wear and use of respiratory protective gear.

• Fire Science or Fire Technology Certificate.
• Firefighter II Certificate.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS TO ATTACH/SUBMIT WITH APPLICATION:
All applicants must submit proof of the following valid licenses and certifications with their applications. Missing required documents will be considered an incomplete application and candidate will not move forward in the recruitment process.

• California Drivers License Class C.
• California State Firefighter I Certificate.
• EMTP Certification/Licensure.
• American Heart Association CPR (Healthcare) ACLSandPALS (PEPP) Certifications.
• Candidate CalJAC Physical Ability Test (CPAT) Certification achieved within the last twelve 12 months or contact the Department to request a Physical Agility Exam.
• Proof of El Dorado County Paramedic Accreditation if applicable.

Qualified candidates may apply for the position of Lateral Firefighter/Paramedic. We only accept applications from candidates who meet all of the requirements. Candidates with the most relevant qualifications will be invited to an Oral Panel Interview and Assessment Center. The Oral Panel Interview and Assessment Center process will be weighted for placement on the Departments eligibility list. Offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation medical and drug screening and/or polygraph examination. The probationary period is twelve 12 months.

TENTATIVE TESTING SCHEDULE:

ORAL PANEL INTERVIEW AND EMS TESTING: The first round of interviews will take place May 6 2025 May 9 2025.
