Description
The City of Oxford is seeking to establish an eligibility list for the position of fulltime Firefighter/Paramedic. This is a Classified position. The salary range for 2025 is $75730.54 to $89094.75 with a paramedic certification. Pay for lateral entry applicants will be based on years of fulltime firefighter/Paramedic service with another agency up to 100 of the pay range for applicants with three or more years of qualifying service. There are currently three new positions to be filled.
Applicants will be required to complete:- A City of Oxford Employment application.
- All candidates must take the FireTEAM exam as well as the Firefighter Mile exam through the National Testing Network to be considered further in the hiring process. To be considered for this round of hiring all testing must be completed by April 28 2025.
- A minimum score of 70 is required on the FireTEAM Exam.
- 8 out of 10 possible points is required on the Firefighter Mile Exam.
- Additional credit for education (official college transcripts only) active military service (DD214 or City of Oxford service credit will be applied to passing scores in accordance with Rule V of the Classified Service Procedures and Personnel Appeals Board Rules and Regulations. Proof of additional credit must be turned in to the Human Resources Manager at by May 12 2025.
Candidates who are in the top five of the eligibility list will be interviewed and begin the background process. Additional interviews may be required. As candidates are excluded from the Eligibility List the next viable candidates may be interviewed. Candidates are removed from the eligibility list after one year.Examples of Duties
Drives various pumpers aerial and rescue fire apparatus EMS vehicles to emergencies and properly position and operate vehicles at the scene.
Responds to various types of emergencies including fires and fire alarms accidents medical emergencies water rescue hazardous materials spills and releases and natural and technological disasters.
Maintain patient confidentiality and protects medical records from unauthorized disclosure.
Operates a variety of tools and equipment related to fire suppression rescue hazardous materials and EMS emergency activities.
Serves as a hose operator in firefighting situations including laying hose lines pulling working lines holding the nozzle to direct the stream of water on the fire.
Inspects commercial residential and other occupancies for fire hazards and compliance with fire prevention codes and ordinances and for emergency preplanning.
Conduct fire prevention inspection and education programs.
Prepare reports with respect to work operations; maintain and update department maps run cards and equipment records; receive and process reports from citizens; observe and report violations of laws and ordinances; clean and maintain station quarters.
Performs maintenance of facilities and equipment by cleaning inspecting repairing and any other maintenance deemed necessary.
Performs checks and inventories of EMS and fire and rescue apparatus to insure that medical supplies medications instruments and equipment are present in proper quantities and in proper operating condition including being within expiration dates as appropriate. Corrects and reports discrepancies. Restocks supplies medications and equipment as needed to maintain proper operating levels.
Performs other related duties as assigned.Typical Qualifications
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- U.S. Citizen with no felony convictions
- Firefighter II certification from the State of Ohio prior to appointment.
- Current Ohio EMTP certification or enrolled in a class in good standing that will be completed and Ohio certification issued prior to the end of a 24month probationary period.
- Must have or obtain within one year CPR and all other certifications required by the Fire Chief and the State of Ohio
- Possession of a valid state drivers license
- Minimum 1year experience in fire and EMS or any combination of education training and work experience that provides the required skill sets to perform the essential functions of the job.

Must be able to work varied shiftshoursand locations including weekends and holidays.
