Our Client is looking for a Test Engineer to be responsible for designing conducting and evaluating tests for armoured vehicles ensuring they meet strict quality safety and durability standards. Responsible to ensure the reliability safety and performance of defence systems. Responsible for planning organizing executing and documenting various testing procedures essential for product validation ranging from ballistic and landmine resistance testing to mobility and durability assessments.
Test Planning & - Develop schedule and conduct tests in collaboration with internal teams and external clients. Testing scope includes but is not limited to landmine and ballistic certifications vehicle mobility assessments and overall system performance evaluations.
- Coordinate test processes and ensure tests meet military and industry standards.
- Design and oversee test setups to ensure accurate simulation of realworld operating conditions from extreme weather and terrain to combat scenarios.
- Identify and troubleshoot issues discovered during testing providing recommendations for design or manufacturing improvements.
Equipment Maintenance & Calibration- Oversee the calibration maintenance and functionality of test instrumentation and measurement chains including conducting uncertainty calculations to verify accuracy.
- Organize monitor and manage test equipment inventory ensuring compliance with internal protocols and external regulatory standards.
Data Analysis & Reporting- Conduct thorough data analysis on test results interpreting findings to assess vehicle performance and suggest improvements.
- Compile and present comprehensive test reports ensuring clarity and accuracy for internal and external review.
- Gather and analyse test data assessing vehicle performance in various categories including structural integrity electrical systems safety features and more.
Budget & Resource Management
Manage the test departments budget controlling expenses related to equipment materials and facility use.
Coordinate with external suppliers for required testing equipment and facilities ensuring alignment with project timelines and specifications.
Documentation & Process Management- Draft and oversee test documentation including test & evaluation master plans (temps) test requirements test instructions and detailed test reports.
- Implement and standardize procedures for test requests approvals and optimizing departmental workflow.
- Ensure all testing procedures comply with relevant safety and regulatory standards preparing detailed test reports and documentation for review and audits.
- Recommend and implement process improvements based on test findings driving product quality and operational efficiency enhancements.
Internal Promotion & Collaboration- Actively promote the capabilities and services of the test department within the organization ensuring the departments value is recognized and integrated into project planning and product development.
- Work closely with design engineering and production teams to integrate test feedback into product improvements and final quality assessments.
Education and Qualification
- Grade 12.
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Electrical Engineering or related field. Advanced degrees will be advantageous.
- Minimum of 35 years of experience in a test engineering role preferably within a defence or automotive manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of test methodologies data analysis and use of testing equipment used.
- Proficiency in test data software CAD and other engineering software.
- Familiarity with military or defence industry standards and vehicle safety certifications.
