Position Summary
The New York Botanical Garden is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Visitor Experience team member to also support our Community Relations Department. This role involves representing NYBG at various community events promoting our programs distributing literature and engaging with visitors to foster positive relationships. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual passionate about nature community engagement and customer service.
In addition to Team Leader duties in Visitor Experience this role will join the newly launched Government Relations Street Teams to engage our Bronx community on resources events and programs available to them at the Garden.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Represent NYBG at designated community events fairs and festivals providing a welcoming presence and sharing information about NYBG programs and initiatives.
Hand out brochures flyers and promotional materials to event attendees ensuring that information about NYBGs programs is effectively communicated.
- Engagement and Interaction:
Engage with the public to raise awareness of NYBGs offerings answer questions and provide friendly assistance.
Assist with the setup and break down at the event booth ensuring all materials are organized and accounted for before and after each event.
Gather feedback from event attendees regarding recommendations and perception of the Garden and relay this information to the Community Relations team.
Work closely with other staff members to ensure a cohesive and efficient presence at community events
Represent and ensure the highest level of visitor satisfaction service and experience on the Garden grounds. Support VE leadership and Attendants on duty.
Qualifications
- Ability to work independently as part of a team.
- Previous experience in customer service or event outreach.
- Knowledge of NYBG programs and initiatives is a plus.
- Excellent communications skills
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Ability to stand for extended periods and move/lift materials (up to 25 lbs) as needed for setup and breakdown.
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions to be outdoors and to sit and/or stand for long periods
Baseline Work Schedule
Varies must have open availability 9am 6pm Weekends and 2 weekdays
Hourly pay rate: $20/hr or current rate plus $1/hr; whichever is higher.
Rate is specific to supporting these events.
Transportation: Responsible for arranging transportation to and from community event location.
