Responsible for providing oversight of the cleaning care and upkeep of assigned buildings or areas of buildings. Responsibilities include: plan and schedule staff assignments and cleaning services ensure training standards are being met observe work in progress of subordinate employees and investigate and resolve complaints of unsatisfactory performance. Assist subordinate supervisors in solving personnel workrelated problems inform staff of agency policies and directives and ensure the efficient and effective use of time and materials. Incumbents will also mop clean buff & wax floors as well as wash corridors stairs stairwells walls and partitions; safely use various hanrated equipment and detergents & other cleaning products; scrub and clean all areas of lavatories rooms & facilities. Must be able to stand stoop bend and stretch for long periods of time. Must have ability to climb ladders and scaffolds. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to multitask organize and delegate tasks based on priority. Floor care experience and working knowledge of a health care facility desired. Will be required to train/retrain employees and maintain documentation of such on a consistent basis.

You must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had one year of permanent competitive noncompetitive labor or 55b/55c service in the Janitor title.
Open competitive (Noncompetitive NY HELPS) Qualifications:
Two years of satisfactory fulltime experience in the custodial care or cleaning of buildings offices or institutional residences of which one year of the experience must have been at a supervisory level.
Schedule based on a 40 hour work week. Supervising Janitor TuesdaySaturday 7:00PM3:30AM. Located at the Community Campus.

NY HELPS appointments may be temporary pending commissioner approval or permanent noncompetitive based on candidate eligibility.
