THE OPPORTUNITY:
The Winter Wheat Breeding Program at Washington State University is seeking qualified applicant for a 12month fulltime postdoctoral researcher position based on the WSU campus in Pullman WA. The incumbent will assist in developing a research program focused on developing novel sources of herbicide tolerance in winter wheat. The researcher will screen large genetic populations with different herbicides to identify tolerance. Upon identification of lines tolerant to herbicides there will be opportunities to investigate the genetic control of the tolerance identify molecular markers associated with the tolerance develop screening protocols and make crosses to develop improved cultivars for commercialization. The longterm goal is to develop novel sources of herbicide tolerance and release commercial cultivars for production in Washington. The incumbent will also participate in outreach to grower groups development of research proposals and scholarly outputs.
POSITION DUTIES:
80 Research: Responsibility for coordinating the efforts of identification of novel herbicide tolerance in winter wheat. Experiments may be conducted in either the greenhouse or under field conditions. Development of protocols for screening of germplasm is expected. Organization of large genetic populations is required. Crossing identified tolerant lines into existing cultivars within the breeding program and developing segregating populations for screening is projected. As the project expands identification of the genetic control of tolerance may be required .
10 Scholarship and Outreach: Results of the research will be reported via oral poster electron and peerreviewed journal formats. These results will also be disseminated to grower groups at meetings and field days. The incumbent will in cooperation with the PI prepare reports and documentation as required to report the outcome of the research efforts. The incumbent will also assist in preparation of research proposals to acquire additional funding for these efforts.
10 Supervision and Mentorship: The incumbent will be responsible for general supervision management and coordination of student hourly workers and interns and their work schedules. Additionally the incumbent will work with graduate students and research technicians associated with the winter wheat breeding program to translate this research to field testing.
Required Qualifications:
A PhD in the area of plant breeding plant genetics or a related field.
Demonstrated excellence in field laboratory and greenhouse skills
Demonstrated ability of scholarly output
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaborate within a team structure
Knowledge of plant breeding and selection theory
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with herbicide tolerance and selection in breeding programs
Supervisory experience

Annual Salary: $70000.00 $80000.00 Commensurate with experience and qualifications
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110 the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidates current experience education skills and abilities related to the position.
