Job Description

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the direction of the Director of Disability & Accommodations

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Student workers as appropriate

POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Director of Disability and Accommodations works in collaboration with the Director to promote disability equity and advocacy on campus. They will be responsible for supporting the documentation review process meeting with students and parents making accommodation recommendations and coordinating with the other campus offices. The work of the Assistant Director will occasionally include evening and weekend hours.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administrative

  • Assist in developing and maintaining student accommodations policy and procedures that reflect a functional mission and strategic plan for support of students with disabilities consistent with the Universitys mission.
  • Support the Director with data collection and analysis regarding services provided to students with disabilities and contribute to strategic planning
  • Implementation of ADA policies with accommodation approvals and collaboration with all necessary parties.
  • Remain current with legal and technological advances related to accessibility support.
  • Participate and collaborate with students staff and faculty on programs and events related to students with disabilities.
  • Ensure the privacy and security of documents including: student files disabilityrelated documentation and session notes.

Student Support

  • Respond to disabilityrelated inquiries from current students prospective students family members of current or prospective students high school teachers and counselors and Moravian University faculty and administrators.
  • Meet with students through the interactive process to determine needs and reasonable accommodations within the university setting.
  • Monitor adjust and evaluate on an ongoing basis individual accommodations that have been implemented.
  • Implement ongoing methods to ensure diverse learning environments especially recognizing neurodiverse students and the need for advocacy and selfdetermination skills.
  • Understand and implement assistive technology with a diverse range of students with disabilities.
  • Oversee student workers hired for accommodations (e.g. notetaker scribe human reader) including recruiting selecting and training notetakers scribes and human readers; as well as monitoring the quality of notes processing timesheets for proper payment and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with the Community Support Coordinator(s) to assist students with outside resources including the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation transportation services electronic text Braille and sign language interpretation

Faculty and Staff Support

  • Support ongoing professional development and awareness programs for faculty staff and student workers with a mind toward countering ableism and supporting disability rights.
  • Monitor that support staff and faculty are appropriately involved in the implementation of accommodations for students with disabilities.
  • Provide general guidance to staff and campus event sponsors who may be involved with the implementation of accommodations for events (AIM Heritage Day Commencement etc..
  • Other duties as assigned.

Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Participate in compiling and reporting on student data and statistics reflecting progress trends and use of services as well as recommendations for future initiatives; participate in the LVAIC Disability Support Providers group as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS: Masters degree in special education or special education administration school psychology rehabilitation counseling higher education or a related field. Ability to interpret psychoeducational evaluations and other disability documentation and determine eligibility for disability services. One to three years of experience in evaluating the needs of students with disabilities preferably in higher education and providing reasonable accommodations including some administrative leadership. Indepth knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Section 508 of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 & 2008 (ADAAA). Familiarity with assistive technologies for students with disabilities. Preference is given to those with experience in data management related to tracking and assessing accommodation programs.
