Mission

Established in 2023 as part of our efforts to address the workforce shortage and racial disparities in HIV/STI/HCV prevention and treatment the Codman Square Health Center HIV medical student summer internship program provides two HBCU medical students with an opportunity to experience the challenges and rewards of HIV/STI/HCV care in community health centers and academic medical centers. Students should have a vested interest in community health sexual health and HIV care.

Overview

This intensive 6week internship will introduce you to providing HIV and STI care in community health centers and academic medical centers and is hosted in collaboration with the HIV and STI programs at Codman Square Health Center Boston Medical Center and Massachusetts General Hospital. During the first week of remote study students will attend didactic lectures online and complete the selfpaced National HIV Curriculum. Throughout the remaining 5 weeks in Boston summer Interns will shadow primary care and infectious disease physicians and nurse practitioners at the three clinical sites and participate in HIV and STI education community outreach activities and didactic sessions. Students will also visit communitybased organizations and meet with local and state public health staff involved in HIV and STI prevention and treatment.
