Job Description
This is an excellent opportunity forgraduate students from any discipline togain a deeper knowledge of sustainability. Crosslisted in Global Studies Architecture and Commerce this interdisciplinary course is the required foundation for both the Global Environments Sustainability major and Global Sustainability minor. Professors from environmental science philosophy medicine architecture engineering commerce and other disciplines lecture throughout the semester and approx. 160 students enrolled from across UVA. Course assistants/graders will gain experience in guiding and grading students. The role does not require extensive knowledge of sustainability or architecture. The position requires an average of 10 hours per week throughout the semester (max. 150 hours per semester) depending on whether there is an assignment to grade that week. Responsibilities:
- Attend class on Tuesday and Thursday from 11:00 12:15 to hear the lecture and assist the instructor with logistics as needed.
- Grade course assignments
- Provide guidance to students as needed
- Help to develop course materials.
- Provide critiques and feedback to students.
- Consult with students on individual projects.
- Hold a single office hour each week and attend the seminar.
Qualifications:
- Enthusiasm for the topic of sustainability
- Ability to provide thoughtful feedback and grade written assignments
- Reliability and commitment to complete job duties on time
- Good communication and research skills.
- Knowledge of Maya or equivalent.
- Previous coursework or experience with moviemaking or animation

Eligibility:Undergraduates and graduate students; SIAs should have either completed the class or have comparable experience and/or interest in the topic.
Pay Rate: $20 per hour (work study preferred)
Time Commitment: 10 hours per week average; Fall 2024

Federal Work Study awards are subject to change even after a student begins working.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.
