Overview
Fiber Lineman / Foreman is responsible for performing diversified work related to the new construction and maintenance of aerial fiber networks updating and maintaining project tracking information such as production sheets time sheets and customer required paperwork. Additional responsibilities include performing all aspects of the project in accordance with OSHA Expanse Core Values and customer requirements. This position supports the Fiber Services OSP Team and works with other associates from the department to construct and deploy fiber within various markets to include Oil & Gas Solar Wind Utility Industrial and Telecommunications.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
- Provide the needed services for the construction operation and maintenance of Aerial Fiber Networks
- Understanding of basic and/or advanced Fiber Installation principles
- Proficient with all phases of line construction
- Ability to read and interpret construction prints plans and specifications.
- Plan and initiate projects
- Must have adequate time management skills.
- Install new hardware strand fiber optic cable and Multi Service Terminals on existing utility poles.
- Install and maintain anchors down guys overhead guys etc.
- Build risers install snowshoes/slack coils.
- Provide technical skills necessary for precise and timely operation and maintenance of aerial fiber deployments with an emphasis on quality.
- Keep abreast of all changes affecting any records reports and related information affecting this position.
- Work flexible hours after hours work which would include nights and weekends.
- On call rotation responding and restoring services for emergency calls responsible for being on the job at short notice to repair damaged cables until service is restored.
- Review and interpret underground and aerial cable records in existing records on maps or in the field.
- Must be able to create materials list based on plans/scope of work order and compile materials for crew in advance of deployment.
- Make precise recommendations for changes in running fiber optic cables or provide input into construction methodologies.
- May be asked to participate in engineering permit and construction processes.
- Perform all work as necessary to conform to quality control guidelines (includes compliance with requirements outlined in applicable regulations such as: OSHA FCC NESC and NEC etc.; as well as following procedures as outlined in the Installation Technical Operations and Safety Manuals and Employee Handbook)
- Clean maintain stock and secure assigned vehicles and equipment.
- Basic computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook Teams Word and Excel
- Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.
Additional Responsibilities (Secondary Functions)
- Customer Service Interaction with project owners engineers and coordinating with customers and engineers for scope changes and communicating those changes to the Project Manager.
- Team Leader Ability to assist in supporting a group to successfully complete an assigned task share knowledge and experience with the team mentor junior technicians.
- Reporting Provide timely feedback of task status changes issued concerns and results.
- Other Serves as backup to other positions in the direction of management; and other duties as assigned.
Education Experience Licenses and Certifications
- Minimum of 2 years relevant experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Lineman Requirements & Qualifications
- Safety training as required by specific projects.
- Industrial First Aid and CPR certifications and experience.
- Ability to adhere to Local Federal regulations and Company policies.
- Ability to drive company vehicles in a safe and responsible manner operate bucket trucks pull splice labs and pull trailers required to complete routine aerial construction.

Physical and Mental Demands
- Lift push pull up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Grasp and manipulate various hand tools.
- Twist bend pull push reach and stoop regularly.
- Standing up to 14 hours per day.
Working Conditions and Work Environment
- Ability to work at heights up to and exceeding 30 feet.
- Clear vision with the ability to judge distance and space relationships.
- Precise handeye coordination
- Exposure to varying temperatures as work is primarily outside.
- Noise levels are moderate to heavy.
- Work in different types of terrain including mud sand and dirt.
- Varying degrees of light as work may begin early in the morning and continue into the evenings.
