Job Duties
Fulltime position with responsibility for evaluating inspecting and recommending habitat permitting actions for projects located over stateowned submerged lands tidal wetlands and coastal primary sand dunes and beaches. Position requires extensive interaction with citizens tidal wetlands boards local officials contractors watermen marine planning consultants and various regulatory agencies. Evaluates all permit applications submitted in an assigned geographic area; reviews technical reports plans and specifications requiring independent analysis; drafts and negotiates terms and conditions embodied in permit documents; assists in preparations and composition of policy level correspondence. Must prepare and give public presentations regarding the agencys jurisdiction and recommendations for controversial proposals.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Demonstrate skills in oral and written communications including a strong aptitude to communicate and collaborate with peers the marine construction industry and the public.
High school education or the equivalent with studies and/or experience in the area of Marine Science Environmental Engineering or related field.
Ability to work independently.
Must be willing to travel and work a flexible schedule including occasional weekends and evenings.
Successful candidate must be eligible for a valid Virginia drivers license.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Experience and/or education in land use planning and regulation engineering oceanography marine science marine resource management or closely related field.
Graduation from a college or university with a degree in Marine Science Environmental Engineering or related field.
Experience working with local wetland boards.
Experience with joint permit application development and processing.
Additional Considerations
This position requires physical ability to lift up to 20 lbs; pushing and pulling; standing sitting reaching walking bending stooping and climbing
