The purpose of the role of an English Subject Leader is to oversee and manage the teaching and learning of English within a school or educational institution. This role is pivotal in ensuring that students receive highquality instruction in English develop strong language and literacy skills and are supported in achieving their full potential.
Roles & Responsibilities of Subject Leader
The ideal candidate for heading the English Department with experience in Cambridge and AS & ALevel education should have the following key qualifications and attributes:
Educational Background: A masters degree in English or a related field with recognized teaching qualifications (e.g. PGCE).
Experience: Extensive teaching experience with Cambridge IGCSE AS & ALevel English and a strong understanding of Cambridge assessment criteria and syllabi.
Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and manage a department mentor teachers and develop a highquality English curriculum.
Pedagogical Expertise: Strong classroom management and teaching skills with experience in assessment feedback and differentiation to meet diverse student needs.
Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with staff students and senior leadership.
Commitment to Student Success: A passion for helping students develop language and literacy skills with a focus on achieving high academic standards.
Organizational and Analytical Skills: Strong organizational abilities datadriven decisionmaking and the ability to monitor and improve student progress.
Professional Development: Commitment to continuous learning and the ability to lead professional development within the department.
