Assistant Professor of Criminology Law Enforcement and Security Studies

Position Type: Fulltime Tenuretrack
Start Date: July 1 2025

Fisk University a historically Black university founded in 1866 is dedicated to developing scholars and leaders. The newly named Criminology Law Enforcement and Security Studies Program at Fisk prepares students for impactful careers in law criminal justice law enforcement security and homeland security through rigorous academic training applied learning and research. Our mission is to advance theory examine practices and analyze policy.

The department invites applications for a tenuretrack Assistant Professor position. We seek a dynamic educator committed to teaching research and service within criminology law enforcement security studies and homeland security. The successful candidate will teach courses across both the Criminology Law Enforcement and Security Studies Program and the Homeland Security Program. ABD candidates and those with a JD along with a masters degree in a relevant field are strongly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

Teaching:

  • Teach undergraduate courses in criminology law enforcement security studies and homeland security.
  • Develop and revise curricula to align with contemporary trends and best practices.
  • Supervise student research projects internships and field experiences.
  • Integrate technology simulations and innovative teaching strategies in course delivery.

Research and Scholarship:

  • Maintain an active research agenda in criminology law enforcement security studies or homeland security.
  • Engage in scholarly activities including conference presentations and publications.
  • Support student research and professional development.
  • Collaborate with the Justice Propulsion Lab and/or other research units at the university.

Service:

  • Serve on department college and university committees.
  • Advise and mentor students pursuing careers in law enforcement security and homeland security.
  • Engage in community outreach and partnerships with law enforcement agencies security firms and government organizations.
  • Contribute to program development and student recruitment.

Technology Integration:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in integrating law enforcement and security technologies in teaching.
  • Utilize digital tools data analytics and security simulations to enhance student learning.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies in criminology law enforcement and security.

Qualifications

Required:

  • PhD (or ABD) in Criminology Criminal Justice Law Enforcement Security Studies Homeland Security or a closely related field or
  • JD along with masters degree in a relevant field with significant professional experience.
  • Evidence of effective collegelevel teaching (including Teaching Assistantships or training experience).
  • Commitment to innovative pedagogy and creative approaches in criminal justice education.
  • Strong understanding of theory law enforcement security policies homeland security practices and subfields such as punishment juvenile justice and international law.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations including racial ethnic cultural and socioeconomic diversity.

Preferred:

  • Experience in legal fields law enforcement homeland security agencies or security firms.
  • Record of successful grant writing and research participation.
  • Experience with online/hybrid instruction and technologyenhanced learning.
  • Familiarity with the mission and culture of HBCUs.
  • Active participation in professional organizations.
  • Experience developing and implementing culturally responsive teaching practices.
  • Experience mentoring and supporting students from underrepresented groups in higher education.
