Job Description

The Injury Prevention Program works to create a safe environment for all Philadelphia residents. Our program currently focuses on reducing and preventing gun violence. We work to:

  • Support an evidencebased approach to violence reduction.
  • Promote the safe storage of firearms especially around children and youth.
  • Promote opportunities for youth that minimize exposure to violence promote safety and build transferable skill sets that support socialemotional and economic wellbeing.
  • Partner with community leaders law enforcement and academic institutions to study what works in reducing gun violence.
  • Monitor and study injuries throughout the city to modify prevention efforts with realtime information.
  • Monitor and study the factors that contribute to violence and injury.

Our program is the convener of coalitions that focus on various strategies to address and combat violence in Philadelphia with the aim of streamlining and improving delivery of violence prevention models in regions of the city experiencing high rates of violence.

We are seeking a skilled Project Coordinator to coordinate the Firearm Homicide Review activities. The Firearm Homicide Review is a multiagency multidisciplinary effort to identify opportunities for prevention and intervention with the goal of reducing gun injury and loss of life. The review combines the public health and criminal justice perspectives to identify trends in cases of fatal shootings and make recommendations for systems change based on the case review process. The Firearm Homicide Review Team is comprised of city agencies hospitals relevant organizations and community stakeholders that contribute to Philadelphias growing violence prevention ecosystem. This position will provide support to the Injury Prevention Program by working closely with the Injury Prevention Program team members of the Firearm Homicide Review Team as well as other CDIP teams City agencies and community organizations to integrate relevant work into the injury prevention priority areas. The Project Coordinator will report to the Injury Prevention Program Manager.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Maintain and analyze comprehensive case data related to incidents of gun violence citywide.
    Coordinate all facets of regularly scheduled meetings and case reviews with review team members.
  • Develop and maintain ongoing partnerships with law enforcement advocacy providers survivors of violence medical providers and other stakeholders throughout the City.
  • Generate annual report including qualitative information with recommendations for system public and private agency and/or communitybased changes to be shared publicly.
  • Maintain up to date information regarding training education and support onboarding of review team members.
  • Research and maintain a working knowledge of emerging issues and trends pertaining to gun violence homicide community violence intervention and assessment and victim and survivor needs in the Philadelphia area.
  • Serve as liaison between the Injury Prevention Program and other City agencies community partners and review team members.
  • Attend meetings and assist with logistics including trainings preparation of meeting minutes agendas and meeting coordination.
  • Define process and outcome metrics and indicators for the Firearm Homicide Review by working with review team members CDIP the Office of Safe Neighborhoods and other City departments.
  • Coordinate planning efforts with review team members to achieve collectively established goals and objectives track progress on action items and deliverables and discuss barriers and potential solutions.
  • Facilitate the sharing of training support materials and information among review team partners.
  • Work with internal health justice team to help coordinate strategy development and implementation especially as it relates to prioritizing health justice in injury projects.
  • Engage with national violence reduction council community of practice to assist in continuous improvement and best practices related to review team activities.
  • Perform related work as required.

Education

A bachelors degree in public health or related field from an accredited college or university.
Applicants with a masters degree in public health social work criminal justice or other relevant training and experience are also encouraged to apply.

Experience

  • Two years of public health work experience especially as related to community violence.
  • Working knowledge experience or understanding of case fatality review teams nonfatal case reviews or violence reduction councils.
  • Ability to work independently including some evenings and weekends. Occasional travel for team meetings victim/survivor support and training opportunities/public education activities required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to follow all personnel policies and rules of the organization.

Skills

  • Content expertise in public health injury prevention project coordination meeting facilitation or violence intervention strategies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to interact appropriately and effectively with a wide range of persons.
  • Experience working with sensitive information.
  • Equally comfortable working individually and within a team environment that emphasizes collaboration in a dynamic health department.
  • Ability to take initiative and follow projects through to completion.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and deadlines.

Other Requirements:

Standard office setting in shared work environment moderate noise (e.g. business office with computers and printers light traffic etc. with extended periods at workstation and periodic use of office equipment. Staff must have the ability to work in office five days per week.
Position Type and Work Schedule: Full time position typical hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
Travel: Some local travel between sites to attend meetings.

Salary and benefits:

$58000 $65000
Salary is commensurate with experience.
