Commercial Management leaders will play a pivotal role in driving the organizations transition to embrace collaborative and progressive contracting models such as Progressive Design Build (PDB) Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) and Alliance Models. They will provide strategic direction and management of commercial decisionmaking for the assigned business unit coordinate commercial leadership across Metrolinx and provide strategic and commercial advice to support the implementation of and adherence to progressive collaborative contract models.

You will:

  • Lead the development and implementation of Commercial Management strategies for the Capital Projects Group.
  • Manage and oversee the implementation and ongoing administration of new and existing contracts required to support Commercial and Delivery teams.
  • Provide strategic direction and management of commercial decisionmaking coordinate commercial leadership and provide strategic and commercial advice to the VP Commercial Management Senior Legal Counsel Senior Management Team (SMT) and other Metrolinx leaders as appropriate to support the implementation of and adherence to Commercial Management plans.
  • Drive to achieve best value for money meeting strategic objectives in a high profile rapidly evolving and competitive environment while improving the customer experience and upholding Metrolinxs behaviours and values.
  • Effectively deal with significant commercial issues including complex engineering and operational challenges to ensure the completion of key projects and strategies; facilitate collaboration and cooperation between stakeholders and external vendors to ensure project delivery and issues resolution.
  • Along with the Commercial Management executives be responsible for the financial health of the organization and stewardship of financial and other resources within the business unit; oversee all contract activities and contracts for value for money.
  • Manage and provide overall direction to the team during a time of change including defining team member roles responsibilities and expectations; ensure timely feedback to ensure a cohesive operational unit and the optimum use of team skills.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need

  • Completion of a degree in Finance Accounting Audit Business Administration Commercial Management or a related discipline or a combination of education training and experience deemed equivalent; Graduate level degree is an asset.
  • Strong Commercial Management experience coupled with knowledge of construction engineering principles and best practices as well as experience in different project/program phases: Initiation PreConstruction Procurement Construction Closeout.
  • Knowledge of Progressive contracts and collaborative contracting models.
  • Demonstrated experience in a public transportation development operational and/or construction environment (Rail Systems Signaling Electrification Track or Utilities) with experience and measured success in the application of commercial management methodology in the context of multimilliondollar projects; experience in the transportation industry and public sector is an asset.
  • Advanced skills in the development and communication of the best practices for the application of contract administration policies and procedures.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management as well as experience managing teams of direct reports and supporting functions including thirdparty consultants and partner agencies.
  • Knowledge of regulatory legislation building codes legal and financial issues and government bodies external agencies and partnering transit organizations involved in developing public transportation systems
  • Highly developed written communication skills to develop briefs and presentations for executive management with a clear and succinct definition of the issues identifying a priority ranking of issues and providing wellresearched and concise answers to anticipated questions; to prepare strategy documents and issue reports.
