About This Role

The Associate Medical Director Rare Disease role is a part of US Medical Affairs a strategic partner within Biogen that helps inform medical practice across our therapeutic areas and pipeline to improve meaningful patient outcomes. As a key member of the US Rare Disease Medical Directors office team and reporting to the Medical Director for Rare Disease the Associate Medical Director Rare Disease is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of the US Medical Strategy for Biogens Rare Disease Portfolio with primary responsibility for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) therapeutic area. What You will Do

  • Contribute to the development and of the US medical strategy and tactics for Rare Disease assets as aligned with global strategy.
  • Serve as a key US Medical contact for important crossfunctional partners (e.g. US Field Medical Scientific & Value Communications Global Medical Clinical Development Epidemiology Pharmacovigilance Commercial Market Access Compliance). 
  • Collaborate with global regional and/or affiliate medical to ensure all medical activities are aligned with Global Medical strategy and that Global Medical is sufficiently aware of the USbased insights and needs.
  • Understand the local business needs and provide insights to the local commercial teams to ensure their plans are in alignment with the medical strategy.
  • Build and nurture relationships with external stakeholders (including KMEs multidisciplinary care team members healthcare institutions and advocacy groups) in Rare Disease therapeutic landscape.
  • As a content expert contribute to the development/adaptation of medical materials consistent with Medical (MMR) and Promotional (PRC) review requirements (e.g. presentations training materials medical briefs) for internal colleagues as well as proactive and reactive resources for use in engagements with external stake holders.
  • Drive the pullthrough of medical strategy into tactics from Rare Disease asset plan by facilitating Advisory Board meetings and contributing to Congress publications and other data generation projects.

Qualifications :

Required skills

  • PhD PharmD MD or comparable advanced degree is required.
  • Minimum of 4 years of pharmaceutical industry experience is required with prior experience in Internal Medical Affairsleadership including product launch experience strongly preferred.  

Preferred Skills

  • Subject matter expertise in the respective therapeutic area in Industry setting is strongly preferred (e.g. Rare Disease Neuromuscular Disease Neurology SMA/ALS/FA).
  • Experience with medical launch and supporting products at various stage of lifecycle
  • Strong working knowledge of US regulations as relevant to Medical Affairs.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and collaborate with global regional and/or affiliate Medical partners to ensure regional activities are executed in alignment with Global Medical strategy and ensure insights and need are identified and appropriately addressed.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and compliantly collaborate with crossfunctional partners in support.
  • Ability to manage projects and take initiative to solve complex and challenging problems in a fastpaced environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to include presentations.


Additional Information :

The base salary range for this position is $170000 $234000. Base salary offered is determined though an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including but not limited to relevant skills & experience job location and internal equity.
