King County Metro Transits Rail Divisionhas an exciting opportunity for aRail Service Worker Lead.
TheRail Service Workers are responsible for moving vehicles in the yard as needed maintaining shop facilities and vehicles and cleaning and servicing shop equipment. In this role you will identify schedule coordinate plan assign oversee and evaluate the work of other Rail Service Workers and Rail Utility Service Workers vendors or contractors.Lead responsibilities also involve assigning overtime approving leave training personnel and performing administrative duties for cleaning and repairs associated with Streetcars Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs) and NonRevenue Vehicles (NRVs).
About Metro Transits Expanding Rail Division
King County Metro Transits Rail Division manages and maintains Sound Transits Link light rail service and City of Seattles streetcar system. Link light rail currently spans a 33mile route from SeaTac to Lynnwood and a 6.6mile route from Redmond to South Bellevue. By the end of 2026 light rail is projected to expand to nearly 60 route miles adding seven new stations. Additional expansions to the Link system will be coming online for years to come.
Seattle Streetcar includes the 1.3 mile South Lake Union line and the 2.5 mile First Hill line proudly serving the diverse and vibrant communities around Seattles downtown core. These rail services complement Metros extensive fixedroute bus system and mobility services. Puget Sound transit agencies are collaborating to create an integrated transit network that enables people to travel farther faster and more easily.
This recruitment may immediately fill up to two 2 Career Service positions and may also be used to establish an eligibility pool for future Career Service vacancies in this classification valid up to 12 months or until exhausted and at the discretion of the hiring authority.
Interviews are anticipated to occur during the week of May5through May 9 2025but are subject to change.

Job Duties

As theRail Service Worker Leadyou will:
- Ensure Rail vehicles are available for scheduled maintenance cleaning and repairs based on written and online forecasting sources with minimal or no direction from the Vehicle Maintenance Chief.
- Assign Rail vehicles for revenue service requirements maximizing fleet availability and utilizing yard setup efficiently. Conduct inventory of Rail vehicle storage yards extract and input data to correct automated train location software preventative maintenance forecasting tools and meter readings.
- Ensure proper assignment of LRVs with special vehicle equipment such as automated passenger counts vehicle wraps and test vehicles.
- Utilize twoway radio communication to transmit to and receive information from subordinates chiefs and the Link Control Center.
- Respond to minor incidents and occurrences within the confines of the yard. Provide direction and leadership to Day Shift RSW/RUSW group. Create Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) work orders for fleet detail and other necessary tasks.
- Ensure shop equipment supplies and special tools for RSW detail work is properly maintained and in good working order.
- Create new procedures and SOPs/SMPs for updating or developing new cleaning or repair tasks.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience Qualifications Knowledge Skills
Minimum Qualifications:
- One year experience working within the Rail Service Worker classification and previous professional cleaning experience and/or automotive maintenance or equipment servicing experience ORany combination of education and experience that clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the job duties of the position.
- Knowledge of basic safety rules practices and principles and applicable OSHA laws.
- Basic knowledge of and skills using current computer system applications for data maintenance.
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Skill in using common hand tools and power tools.
- Skill in performing physical labor.
- Knowledge of workload planning and scheduling with ability to effectively manage competing priorities.
- Knowledge of basic janitorial techniques.
- Basic computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook Word Excel and Teams.
DesirableQualifications:- Knowledge of Rail vehicle inventory practices and Rail vehicle maintenance procedures.
- Ability to work and provide motivation in a team environment and with a diverse work group.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Skill in learning automotive preventative maintenance.
- Skill in accurately performing numeric calculations and perform record keeping tasks.
Working Environment- Must be able to work from high places on mechanical lift devices support structures and poles.
- Ability to work around yard rail switches and high voltage equipment; indoors outdoors and in inclement weather.
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.

Work Schedule
This position is anticipated to be full time assigned 40 hours per week.Employees must be able to work any of the three shifts (day swing or graveyard).Work schedule may include non standard work hours including evenings weekends and holidays as needed. Schedules are based on a seniority pick system and potentially can change every 6 months based on seniority.This position is non exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is therefore overtime eligible with prior supervisory approval.

Applicants for positions defined as safetysensitive are required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and subsequent to the commencement of employment will be subject to random postaccident reasonable suspicion return to duty and followup drug and alcohol testing in compliance with Federal DOT alcohol and controlled substances testing program protocols.
