Description
Organization Overview:The Goddard Riverside Community Center (Goddard Riverside) and the Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center (Isaacs Center) are wellestablished Manhattan communitybased agencies that support services to approximately 30000 New Yorkers. We are two of New York Citys leading human services organizations meeting the needs of children youth and families homeless individuals and older adults throughout Manhattan and New York City. We work every day for a fair and just society where all people have the opportunity to make choices that lead to better lives for themselves and their families. The Isaacs Center focuses primarily on the needs of children and lowincome families outofschool and outofwork youth and aging New Yorkers. We operate at community centers located in the neighborhoods of East Harlem and Yorkville and seek to deliver programs that are impactful innovative and intergenerational.
Program Description: Goddard Riverside is a wellestablished Manhattan communitybased agency with an annual operating budget of approximately $50 million. Goddard Riverside is one of New York Citys leading human service organizations meeting the basic needs of children youth and families homeless people and older adults across Manhattan and New York City.
Position Summary: The primary function of the Activity Specialist is to plan group activities that provide a safe and engaging learning environment to the participants of the Stanley M. Isaacs Beacon program The program is delivered through a comprehensive menu of services including projectbased learning that integrate education enrichment visual arts clubs trips and sports.
Schedule:Monday to Friday September 16 2024 June 13 2025 (some holidays evening and Saturdays)2:00 pm to 6:00 pm (Hours may vary) 1720 hours per week
Salary Range: $30.00
Roles Responsibilities and Essential Duties

- Demonstrate professionalism & leadership.
- Have experience teaching sports coaching or other physical activities.
- Experience implementing physical activities in schoolbased afterschool camp and/or communitybased settings.
- Promote physical literacy; motivation confidence physical competence knowledge and understanding to value and take responsibility for engagement in physical activities for life.
- Deliver sports activities and develop a community during afterschool to explore our monthly theme through sports lessons and a project.
- Supervise youth and participate in all activities by building positive relationships with youth and peers serving as a role model with respect to demeanor communication behavior and the organizations mission philosophy and goals.
- Work with children on developmental and emotional issues; encourage program participation and social skills development.
- Instruct participants on Sport exercises and developing a healthy lifestyle.
- Enforce program rules identify & respond to participant behavior issues and carry out corrective action when needed by identifying and seeking to resolve conflicts and behavioral problems.
- Communicate with parents about participants experiences and report concerns to Program Director.
- Know and enforce ALL emergency procedures and follow all safety guidelines associated with all program areas. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for your childrens safety and their whereabouts at all times.
- Inform the supervisor of any noteworthy incidents occurring during program time.
- Ensure all children are picked up by appropriate adults on their contact sheet.
- Attend staff training weekly meetings case conferences and supervision meetings.
- Teach a range of sports including basketball soccer football and volleyball.
- Other duties as required and assigned by Program Director ADED and/or DED.
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- Minimum BA/S degree or current college students preferred.
- You have at least 2 years of experience working with Elementary and/or Middle School students in an afterschool or summer camp setting.
- Instruct participants on Sport exercises and developing a healthy lifestyle.
- Must be knowledgeable and have prior experience successfully teaching and instructing youth.
- Must have ability to work collaboratively.
- Must have passion for the mission and demonstrate interest in the field of education and youth development.
- Must have a sense of humor positive demeanor and a passion for youth development.
- Must be able to pass background check including a Fingerprint Screen Sex Offender Registry and be physically able to work with children (via a doctors signed consent including TB screening).
- CPR/First Aid Certification a plus
- Fostering a learning environment that stimulates childrens creative growth and development.
- Demonstrate professionalism & leadership to be a team member of a group of staff and a group of 1525 youth in grades K8.
- Working with children with developmental and emotional issues.
- Encourage program participation and development of social skills.
- Teach and supervise organized games and assist the activity specialist escort groups to and from activity areas and field trips and carry out other tasks.
- Assist in planning and leading activities and events.

Skills Knowledge and Abilities
- Must be able to follow curriculum.
- Must be responsible reliable and punctual!
- Create and able to implement plans for group participation.
- Effectively supervise children.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent bending kneeling walking
- Must be able to carry 50lbs or more
Working Conditions
- MTA travel throughout the city and for recreational trips with youth

- Alternate between standing and sitting
