Do you want to play a leading role in reducing the risk of flooding to homes and businesses across Scotland and improving the quality of our rivers and coastal shores
We have a vacancy for a Wastewater Catchment Planner within the sewer flooding team. Your primary role will be to understand the risks and opportunities in your allocated wastewater catchment areas through working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders. This knowledge will allow you to lead flooding and sewer overflow projects through the option investigation and planning phase reviewing the evidence required to develop business cases to secure investment for sustainable catchment strategies providing multiple benefits.
These solutions will improve the capacity of the sewer network to reduce customer impact debris in our rivers and sewerage spills to the environment. The projects can vary greatly in scope from largescale sewer upgrade schemes to improvements at a single CSO or customer property and from citywide strategic drainage partnerships exploring blue/green infrastructure to being the primary point of contact for customers experiencing the impacts of sewer flooding.
What Youll Do
Youll be assigned responsibility for sewer catchments within several Local Authority areas and will collaborate with colleagues across Scottish Water to develop knowledge and understanding of sewer network performance issues and opportunities in these catchments including the management of surface water. You will establish relationships with external stakeholders particularly Local Authorities and SEPA to provide mutual support on overlapping responsibilities and to fulfil requirements specified in the Flood Risk Management Act. You will also play a leading role in driving the objectives outlined in Scottish Waters Improving Urban Waters Routemap to reduce sewagerelated debris in our environment and frequency of spills from combined sewer overflows.
You will work with our framework technical consultants and construction contractors to advance projects through a defined process of scoping survey hydraulic model review optioneering and solution design to a stage where the preferred solution business case is granted investment approval. The next couple of years will be an exciting time at Scottish Water as we transition from one sixyear investment cycle to the next with significant public interest in the impacts of sewer overflows flooding and climate change.
The role is suitable for flexible and hybrid working but you will be required to occasionally work from offices within the central belt in addition to site visits to project locations across Scotland. A full UK driving licence is needed.
What Youll Need
To be successful in this role youll need experience working in the water industry and a strong understanding of wastewater networks hydraulic modelling and surface water management. You should be able to write clear wellstructured technical reports and presentations that provide focused information and actionable recommendations.
Strong communication skills are essential as youll need to explain complex issues to both internal and external stakeholders influencing and driving change even outside your direct areas of control. An analytical and organised approach is key ensuring you gather the right evidence for critical decisionmaking. Experience with GIS and/or hydraulic modelling software would also be beneficial.
It would be great if you also have programme or project management skills experience in the management or design of infrastructure projectswhether grey or blue/green infrastructureand a background in community and customer engagement.

The notsosmall print
This role will be a Grade 7. If youre new to Scottish Water youll join us on a starting salary of 41000. Performancedriven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of 51970.
