TITLE: Wastewater Lab Technician

LOCATION: City of Pasco WA (onsite)

SALARY:$35.18 $39.61 Hourly $73174.40 $82388.80 Annually) depending on qualifications

JOB TYPE:Regular/FullTime

UNION STATUS: International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE)

FLSA STATUS:NonExempt

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday Friday 7:00 AM 3:30 PM (opportunity for alternate schedule may be available)

THE ROLE:

As a Wastewater Lab Technician you will play a critical role in performing laboratory analysis to meet various local state and federal permits (NPDES State Discharge Permits) and treatment plant process control requirements. You will ensure the Citys treatment plant laboratory meets accreditation and compliance standards and assist in training personnel on laboratory operations and best practices.

The ideal candidate for this role will have at least two 2 years of experience in a related field knowledge of wastewater treatment plant operations and laboratory procedures and the ability to foster a culture based on integrity and respect. You will collaborate with the Environmental Compliance Manager and other departments to maintain compliance and operational efficiency. A background check drug screen and verification of certifications are required upon acceptance of a conditional offer.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

(Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge skills and abilities required to perform the job.

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent supplemented by one 1 year of collegelevel coursework in chemistry or a related science field.

  • Experience: Minimum of two 2 years in a related field (e.g. laboratory work wastewater plant operations chemistry biology or environmental sciences).

  • Certifications & Licenses:

    • Valid Washington State drivers license.

    • Valid First Aid/CPR certification.

    • Washington State Group I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certification (preferred).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Additional education in chemistry environmental science or wastewater treatment.

  • Experience with laboratory information management software.

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

SAFETY/WORK CONDITIONS:
  • Work is primarily performed in the wastewater treatment plant laboratory with occasional fieldwork.

  • Frequent standing walking bending reaching pulling and crouching for long periods.

  • Exposure to hazards including extreme conditions confined spaces loud noises operating machinery electrical systems raw sewage gases fumes and chemicals.

  • Must adhere to health and safety regulations and proper handling of hazardous materials.
