DSHS BHA Recreation & Athletics Specialist 3
The Department of Social and Health Services is looking for an engaging reliable and organized Recreation and Athletics Specialist 3 to join our dynamic team at Olympic Heritage Behavioral Health (OHBH). In this role youll have the opportunity to use your creativity as you provide innovative recreational and leisure activities that include sports social activities drama arts and music to inpatient psychiatric patients.
OHBH located in Tukwila WA is committed to patient care and we strive to serve all patients and family members with the utmost respect. Our Staff members provide direct care specialized services and evidencebased individual/group therapies to adults with severe psychiatric conditions.
King County employees receive 5 premium pay in addition to the advertised salary and are eligible to receive a free ORCA card for transportation use. Opportunities performed onsite at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5 premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.
Some of what you will do:- Develop a schedule of recreational activities to meet the needs interests and abilities of individual clients or groups of clients
- Plan organized and directed part of the recreation program including group or individual activities and special events for clients in the facility
- Work in one or more skill areas directing conducting or instructing programs of related to exercise sports social activities drama music literature and arts and crafts
- Confer with clinical or other staff members to determine recreation programs for individual clients or groups as well as participate in meetings and conferences with the Interdisciplinary Team
- Document patients attendance and response to treatment
We are looking for:- Experience planning and facilitating large group activities
- Demonstrated good judgment in supporting clients in behavior crises by emphasizing the helping relationship using programapproved methods
- Knowledge of many fields of recreation activities including specialized knowledge of several broad areas such as; group fitness sports dramatics music social activities arts and crafts organizing conducting and directing recreation activities
- Experience working in an inpatient facility for adults with mental illness
- Ability to respond to emergency situations with individuals with mental illness
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and peers
Who should apply
Professionals with the following:- Bachelors degree involving major study in:
- Recreation or therapeutic recreation OR
- Music/drama or physical education OR
- Psychology sociology or education with a minor in recreation physical education music or drama
- Recreation or therapeutic recreation OR
- Two years of paid professional recreation experience
- One year of experience as a WA State Recreation Athletic Specialist 2
