The Los Angeles County Employees Retirement Association (LACERA) administers and manages the more than $80 billion retirement fund for the County of Los Angeles. We provide retirement disability and death benefits to eligible County Employees and their Beneficiaries and collect deposit invest and manage retirement funds from the County Outside Districts and County Employees.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The position is located in the Legal Office of the Los Angeles County Employees Retirement Association (LACERA). The role of the Legal Office is in part to provide transactional legal support to the Investment office to generate the funds necessary to pay out pension benefits. The Legal Division is comprised of a Chief Counsel Senior Staff Counsels Staff Counsels Legal Analysts and Legal Secretaries. Legal staff work in one of four sections: Litigation and Employment Investments and Commercial Transactions Benefits and Disability.

The Investments and Commercial Transactions Section of the Legal Division is responsible for providing legal support to LACERAs Investment Office including reviewing drafting and negotiating agreements with investment managers and advisors custodians and consultants relating to institutional investments in the areas of real estate credit equities real assets hedge funds and private equity. The Group also provides legal support to other divisions within LACERA such as Administrative Services Member Services Human Resources Systems Internal Audit and the Executive Office in the areas of commercial contracts risk assessments vendor management and Public Records Act requests.

VACANCY INFORMATION:The current vacancy is in the Investments and Commercial Transactions Section of the Legal Division.The resulting eligible register can be used to fill both current and future vacancies throughout the Legal Division.

WORK SCHEDULE:This fulltime position is required to work a 5/40 schedule (e.g. an eight 8 hour day Monday through Friday). LACERA offers a hybrid work environment and this position may be eligible to telework up to three 3 days per week depending on the needs of the Legal Division and LACERA.

Two 2 years of increasingly responsible legal secretary experience working in a law office or similar legal environment in the public or private sector.


KEYBOARDING SKILL:40 net words per minute**


PHYSICAL CLASS II Light: Light physical effort which may include occasional light lifting to a 10pound limit and some bending stooping or squatting. Considerable walking may be involved.

EXAMINATION CONTENT: This selection process will consist of:

Part I:A qualifying evaluation of application information and the desirable qualifications.

Only the highest qualified applicants as determined under Part I will be invited to continue in the selection process under Part II.

Part II:An Appraisal (Oral) Interview weighted 100.

The appraisal (oral) interview will assess the applicants knowledge experience and general ability to perform the essential functions of the position.

Those candidates which are determined eligible for hire under the Los Angeles Countys Civil Services Rules may be invited to the selection process which may be comprised of a selection interview to determine the candidates fit for the position and/or jobrelated assessments.

Benefit Information: Depending on the position the successful candidate will enroll in a contributory defined benefit pension plan if the candidate is a new member of the Countys defined benefit plan (LACERA) on or after January 1 2013 (first employed by the County on or after December 1 2012 unless she or he established reciprocity with another public retirement system in which she or he was a member before January 1 2013. It should be noted that County employees do not pay into Social Security but do pay the Medical Hospital Insurance Tax portion of Social Security at a rate of 1.45.
