Job Description

Student Worker Program Assistant

Number of Openings: 1 3

Purpose/Objective of the Role:

The Programming Assistant (PA) role aims to develop paraprofessional staff members skills in independently planning implementing and assessing events that align with the Residential Experience framework. This position supports fostering events related to sense of belonging wellness life skills and intercultural community within the residential community.

Tasks & Responsibilities:

1. Programming:

  • Assist professional staff with planning and executing events for the residential community focusing on logistical and strategic aspects.
  • Attend weekly Residential Experience meetings to support existing programs and contribute to creating new ones.
  • Host a Welcome Back event during the first weekend of the fall semester.
  • Collaborate on Late Night @ Smith events progressively taking on more responsibilities with guidance.

2. Training & Meetings:

  • Attend training sessions before the start of fall classes.
  • Meet weekly with a supervisor to stay updated on events and provide progress updates.

Qualifications:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Critical and creative thinking abilities.
  • Collaboration skills to work effectively with campus partners and the residential community.
  • Experience in planning and implementing events is preferred.

The PA role provides valuable handson experience in event planning communication and teamwork making it an excellent stepping stone for careers in student affairs event management or community development. It also builds leadership organizational and intercultural competencies.
