Description

The role involves supervising guiding and advocating for individuals with developmental disabilities adhering to a structured schedule of volunteer recreational and life skills activities within a community setting.


The required schedule is:

Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Essential Skills:

  • Supervise program participants in line with their service plans supervision guidelines (which may include lineofsight supervision) during both facility and communitybased activities.
  • Engage in all scheduled activities with participants including swimming exercise skillbuilding gardening/farming fishing domestic tasks such as laundry and dishwashing and various outdoor activities.
  • Safely transport individuals to volunteer sites in an agency vehicle adhering to the speed limits and guidelines outlined in the Our House Inc. Safe Driving Policy which includes driving on highways and over long distances.
  • Maintain the appropriate ratio as specified in each individuals service plan during both facility and communitybased activities.
  • Ensure the cleanliness safety and security of the program site which includes performing general cleaning tasks as necessary.
  • Assist with participants toileting needs which may involve changing adult incontinence products/feminine hygiene products cleaning after bowel movements or urination and cleaning the surrounding area after accidents.
  • Attend and contribute to monthly staff meetings and quarterly allagency staff meetings.
  • Demonstrate flexibility by working with various program participants and at different program sites as needed.

Essential Physical/Mental Demands:

  • Must be able to write and type legibly utilizing a laptop computer or other company device.
  • Must be able to comprehend/interpret charts diagrams possess inductive and deductive reasoning.
  • Must be able to physically enter programs and community buildings.
  • Must be able to observe hear and respond if a participant in the program or in the community is in danger or needs assistance.
  • Must be able to physically demonstrate how to perform various tasks to participants.
  • Must possess adequate motor skills to assist participants who are physically disabled to be able to respond quickly to prevent injury or mishap of residents create a safe atmosphere and to be able to redirect participants with behavior problems. (Examples: selfabuse/injury darting into dangerous situations injuring other participants or other people)
  • Must possess adequate reading and writing skills to complete all trainings and required written assignments.
  • Must possess good judgment and problemsolving skills to handle daytoday situations that may arise during work time.
  • Must be able to work alone while also meeting required staffing ratio.
  • Must be able to accompany and supervise residents on appointments community activities recreational events etc.
  • Must have sufficient oral communication and comprehension skills to sufficiently understand and respond to other individuals including participants both in person and on the telephone.
  • Must be able to attend offsite trainings.
  • Must be able to physically assist residents with meeting hygiene needs which includes but is not limited to: showering bathing and toileting.
  • Must be able to physically assist individuals utilizing wheelchairs in a residential and community setting (pushing transporting etc.
  • Must be able to provide the adequate level of assistance to transfer participants in and out of the bathroom bed shower etc. based on the needs of the residents in the home.
  • Must wear PPE including masks when required.
  • Must be able to drive participants on a regular basis and complete business errands utilizing an agency vehicle.

Lift/Force Requirement Weight

Constant 10 lbs.

Frequent 25 lbs.

Occasional 50 lbs.



Requirements
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Valid NJ drivers license with a good driving record
  • Own transportation to and from work and between work sites
  • Must complete and pass mandatory (paid) Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) trainings
  • Demonstrated ability to enter notes for services and billing in an electronic health records system
  • Intermediate to advance proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to provide professional references during the application process



Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 90 of the workday may include travel using agency vehicles. This is subject to change based on program and/or agency needs.
