:59 PMCBC News Edmonton is seeking a skilled video producer to join our visual storytelling team.
You are an audiencefocused professional committed to telling visual stories that reflect the diversity of Edmonton Alberta and the Prairies. When a story breaks you are the first person on the scene beating the competition with the freshest shots and latest developments.
You also love to come up with your own original story ideas. Collaborating with colleagues you oversee the entire production process from planning to distributing the final product. Your platform delivery list includes National News CBC Edmontons FAST Channel CBC YouTube CBC GEM TikTok cbc radio and televisionyou know how to tailor your storytelling to each of these platforms and their audiences.
You understand the people who live and work in Albertas distinct political climate and energydriven economy. You love it when you meet someone with a different perspective and life experience than your own.
Possessing a positive and collaborative attitude you care about the people you work with and have a deep appreciation for different perspectives opinions and experiences. This role requires fulltime on site presence.
Please note: Normal working days will be Wednesday to Sunday. On weekends you will be assigned to work with the national reporter for the Prairies.
Key tasks:
Conceives pitches develops and edits story ideas and concepts. Helps to determine or influence the editorial direction of a story.
Develops visual story content including researching writing interviewing shooting generating and/or editing of written and visual material. Determines the visual style pace tempo and format of the story item relative to each platform it will be published on including video soundscapes photo galleries and other content items
Leads the development of new production methods using contemporary visual storytelling trends practices tools and techniques to continually improve CBCs content and best practices.
Performs location surveys and identifies special requirements such as audio lighting camera angles and equipment including production limitations.
Prepares aligns sets up and operates small format cinema and traditional broadcast cameras and ancillary equipment ensuring optimal visual audio and technical quality under prevailing conditions for multiple platforms and deadlines.
Innovates and performs highly creative content gathering techniques for complex covert situations.
Provides technical guidance expertise and support focused on content production techniques and workflows.
Travels out of town for breaking news and planned assignments
Your profile:
A combination of education and experience equivalent to a degree or certificate in Television Production Journalism or a related field and 5 years of practical industry experience.
Strong sense of creativity initiative and a high degree of responsibility for the accuracy and quality of work throughout the complete production cycle.
Proven record of highly creative innovative visual storytelling.
Superior level of technical knowledge with a variety of cameras broadcast equipment and nonlinear editing platforms.
Understanding of visual gathering visual production and postproduction methods with a focus on storytelling.
Experience reflecting diverse and contemporary communities in visual storytelling.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.
Ability to work in a deadlinedriven environment while maintaining a professional attitude.
Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to pursue the acquisition of story elements with a minimum of supervision.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Ability and willingness to work overtime and various shifts patterns including overnights weekdays and weekends as required. Some last minute travel may occasionally be required.
Transport Canada RPAS Advanced Pilot Certification is an asset
Professional photography skills are an asset
Skills and experience with motion graphics and compositing are an asset
Possession of a valid drivers license as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/RadioCanadas insurance company.
