Job Description

The Lighting Design Assistant provides support to the Lighting Design Team to increase productivity and help meet production deadlines. This individual is responsible for routine tasks related to the and implementation of lighting design projects across all Sight & Sound locations. In fulfilling these duties this team member will work in collaboration with the Lighting Operations Team including shadowing and building relationships.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Lighting Design Team to create and update lighting paperwork including: Lightwright Shop Orders Light Plots Lighting Inventory Building Drawings etc.
  • Assist the Master Electrician in the installation of scenic lighting designs for all new and returning shows.
  • Support the Lighting Design Team as necessary throughout the Changeover Process (Lighting Installation Lighting Focus/Programming and Technical/Dress Rehearsals).
  • Aid in the testing and troubleshooting of all lighting equipment with industry standard tools.
  • Support design demos and workshops through the gathering and preparation of required equipment.
  • Assist in EOS showfile creation and console programming.

Prerequisites:

  • Hold a strong understanding of the various theatrical disciplines and how they interact with one another.
  • Demonstrate a positive and friendly attitude a collaborative and professional demeanor a consistent work ethic and the ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations.
  • Be naturally organized with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Exhibit a systematic approach to problem solving through the identification of goals and knowing how to obtain what is needed to accomplish those goals.
  • Ability to lead individuals and crews through specific projects loadins and strike times.
  • Flexible in understanding the seasons related to workload and required work time
  • Proven ability to read and implement technical lighting documents (plots and paperwork).
  • Working knowledge of lighting design software including but not limited to Vectorworks Lightwright Moving Light Assistant and WYSIWYG
  • Working knowledge of automated and conventional lighting components entertainment networks and DMX protocol
  • Proficiency in EOS Family lighting consoles
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word Excel Outlook Teams etc.
