Classroom Resources Specialist FullTime Exempt Overview: The Education and Guest Services Division at George Washingtons Mount Vernon provides meaningful learning opportunities for Mount Vernons one million annual visitors and students in classrooms around the country. Through a diverse portfolio of interpretive experiences engaging public programs and online resources we expand each learners understanding of and relevance of George Washington and the world in which he lived. The Department of Learning is designed to ensure that Mount Vernon is focused on creating and providing the best learning experiences available to young people today. Within the Department the K12 team plays a major role in reaching students by creating classroom resources providing student learning experiences and designing and facilitating immersive teacher professional development programs as part of the George Washington Teacher Institute (GWTI). The Classroom Resources Specialist is a key member of the K12 team who ensures Mount Vernons mission supports formal K12 classrooms around the country by providing diverse researchbased highquality classroom resources for students and teachers across abilities and grade levels. The Specialist contributes expertise and guidance to all student and teacherfacing work on the estate and online and advises Senior Staff on the needs of the approximately 50 million students and four million teachers in the United States who are both a priority audience that the institution is poised to meet and better achieve impact. Compensation: Starting at $45000 $50000 PositionSpecific Responsibilities: - Develop and publish differentiated K12 classroom resources on Mount Vernons education web pages to align with current educational trends meet teacher and student needs across grade levels and abilities and reflect current institutional goals.
- Collaborate closely with external educational materials designers to produce print online and interactive digital K12 classroom resources.
- Audit edit organize and curate existing K12 classroom resources and web pages to evaluate for cohesiveness accessibility effective navigation and opportunities for inquiry.
- Support the publication of Mount Vernons K12 classroom resources on various missionaligned partner websites in order to reach a wider audience.
- Manage signature Teacher Fellowship Program through both long and short term:
- Communication networking organizing and training of multiple stakeholders including interns staff participants speakers vendors and volunteers to deliver signature teacher learning experiences.
- Coordination and tracking of various program details expenses and logistics.
- Research design and publication of new K12 classroom resources.
- and supporting the Senior Manager of K12 Learning and the Director of Learning in the development of key program elements including:
- Program budget evaluation scholarship and strategies.
- Institutional alignment and development reporting.
- Codevelop and review K12 promotional materials including copy and graphics for enewsletters social media posts and digital and print flyers during monthly and yearly cycles.
- Stay current on teacher and student learning trends in history civics and interrelated subjects and represent Mount Vernon in national conversations about K12 classrooms and student learning at a variety of inperson and/or digital conferences and programs at the district state and national levels (approximately 3 times/year).
- Consult with current and past members and/or alumni of the Teacher Advisory Group Student Advisory Board GWTI Residential Fellowship and 250 Programs to gain insights into current teacher and student needs.
- Serve as a liaison between visiting teachers students institutional partners and stakeholders as part of their onsite experiences at Mount Vernon.
- Provide expertise on programs projects and resources developed and led by various teams within the Education and Guest Services division to ensure alignment with current educational trends and institutional goals.
- Support institutional evaluation efforts to gain a researchbased understanding of teacher and student needs and connections to Mount Vernons mission as it relates to our education mission.
- Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in history museum education education curriculum and instruction and/or communication.
- Minimum 2 years experience working with K12 students and/or teachers in formal education public history museum education history and/or related spaces.
- Knowledge of current trends and effective practices in education history education and education policies.
- Strong organizational and project management skills; ability to track multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize workload.
- Skilled in written communication including editing and oral communication demonstrated in an education or training environment.
- Proficiency in using computer software and cloudbased applications including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace video conferencing platforms and the ability and selfconfidence to troubleshoot technical issues as they arise.
- Exceptional interpersonal and relationshipbuilding skills to foster effective collaboration with various stakeholders.
Special Requirements: The successful candidate will: - Be a motivated selfstarter who displays a high level of responsibility accountability and initiative.
- Have the ability and flexibility to work nontraditional hours work remotely from various locations and travel across the U.S. to plan host and facilitate programming.
