Our client is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee the financial operations of their organization. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in nonprofit accounting and public accounting with a strategic mindset and the ability to lead a small but dedicated finance team. This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting effective treasury management and compliance with federal and state regulations including grant reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare analyze and present monthly quarterly and annual financial statements to senior leadership and the Board.
Manage the organizations treasury functions including cash flow forecasting and bank account management.
Oversee monthly financial reporting ensuring accuracy timeliness and alignment with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
Lead and manage the finance team including Accounts Payable Accounts Receivable and Staff Accountants in partnership with an external accounting firm.
Structure and negotiate loan agreements and maintain banking relationships.
Ensure compliance with all federal and state grant reporting requirements.
Develop and monitor the annual budget in collaboration with leadership aligning financial planning with strategic goals.
Maintain and improve internal controls and financial processes to support operational efficiency and transparency.
Stay current with changes in accounting standards and regulations that may impact the organization.
Support the annual audit process and manage relationships with external auditors and advisors.
Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or related field is required.
CPA and/or MBA strongly preferred.
Minimum of 710 years of progressive accounting and finance experience including nonprofit experience.
Prior experience in public accounting is preferred.
Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.
Demonstrated experience with federal grant compliance and reporting.
Excellent communication analytical and leadership skills.
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
