Headways mission is a big one to build a new mental health care system everyone can access. Weve built technology that helps people find great therapists with the first softwareenabled national network of providers accepting insurance.

1 in 4 people in the US have a treatable mental health condition but the majority of providers dont accept insurance making therapy too expensive for most people. Headway is building a new mental healthcare system that everyone can access by making it easy for therapists to accept insurance and scale their practice.

Headway was founded in 2019. Since then weve grown into a diverse national network of over 45000 mental healthcare providers across all 50 states who run their practice on our software and have served over 1 million patients. About Engineering at Headway

Building a new mental healthcare system at Headway is only possible because of the scale and leverage that software can provide. The engineering team at Headway is a small 85 but mighty team using technology to build that future (and have a fun time while doing it!.

About the Role

There is a lot that were building at Headway but a patients experience is at the crux of Headways mission of making mental healthcare more accessible and affordable for everyone. This is a rare opportunity to lead and grow engineering pods focused on solving meaningful highimpact challenges in healthcare. Working at the intersection of growth product development and platform integration youll have the freedom to innovate and experiment while collaborating with a diverse group of product marketing and clinical experts. Your teams will build systems that help patients discover and access mental health care directly improving lives and transforming the healthcare landscape. As an engineering leader at Headway you will be responsible for leading and growing these pods through people development supporting hiring strategic planning driving engineering velocity and business outcomes. You will establish and scale innovative solutions that meet patients where they are integrating Headway into trusted platforms and driving growth through SEO marketing and referral systems. Your leadership will empower patients to discover and connect with the mental health care they need while building a scalable impactful product ecosystem.

Were looking for productminded engineering team leaders and people managers who are relationshipobsessed drive results and enable their teams to build for technical excellence.As an Engineering Manager at Headway you will work closely with Engineering Leadership Product Design and Business teams to help shape the future of the engineering organization. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate missionaligned engineering leader to make an immediate impact on our rapidly scaling engineering team.

  • Lead and manage a team (or teams) of 6 engineers
  • Ensure there is process and product alignment across your team
  • Develop and grow your team through weekly 11s mentorship and feedback
  • Work with and help develop aspiring engineering leaders within the engineering team
  • Contribute to the broader company strategy and product roadmap
  • Help build out our engineering team as the headcount grows from 80 to 120 through the remainder of the year

  • You have 46 years of experience as an Engineering Manager
  • You have 35 years of experience as a Software Engineer
  • You have a strong product mindset and have built strong crossfunctional relationships that drive optimal user experiences and build trust with users
  • You have a strong technical foundation that allows you to ensure your team is making appropriate technical decisions
  • You have a track record of building and leading high performing teams that have effectively delivered business outcomes through technical investments
  • You have a track record of working well across teams and functions
  • Its a nice to have if youve had prior experience with Python and React and working with AWS infrastructure
  • Its a nice to have if youve had experience in health tech building userfacing products
  • BS MS in Computer Science or related field

Our interview process

  • Initial screen: Youll connect with someone in recruiting so you can learn more about the team Headways mission and exciting growth and we can get a better idea of your background.
  • First rounds: Youll meet with an engineering leader on the team to go deeper into your team and people leadership experiences and complete one technical (systems design) interview.
  • Final rounds: Youll meet team members across product and engineering leadership for multiple behavioral interviews leaving you with a fuller picture of what its like to work at Headway.

Compensation and Benefits:

The expected base pay range for this position is $234600 $276000 based on a variety of factors including qualifications experience and geographic location. In addition to base salary this role may be eligible for performancebased variable compensation and an equity grant depending on the position and level.
