VIP has an exciting opportunity available for an experienced Database Engineer 2 to join our collaborative team in Colchester VT or Ottawa ON. This position will work to ensure the security integrity and performance of our database systems. Are you a motivated selfstarter with a passion for database engineering Were looking for a skilled individual to contribute to the creation of new enterpriselevel systems as well as the maintenance of our existing infrastructure. Some oncall availability will be required.
Position Type: Full Time hybrid. This position will report to our office headquarters in Ottawa ON.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Ensure database security integrity stability and system availability
- Tune database for optimum system performance and reliability
- Ensure data integrity data quality and data consistency.
- Profile server resource usage and optimize as necessary
- Maintain database backup and recovery infrastructure
- Assist in monthly database server maintenance and upgrades
- Auditing database regularly to maintain quality
- Create maintain and optimize complex SQL scripts and stored procedures
- Follow (and if necessary refine) inhouse coding standards
- Troubleshoot/bugfix SQL scripts
- Support application development staff with database design and implementation
- Use database code repositories for change management
- Assist in compliance efforts to include reporting auditing and implementation
- Effectively communicate and collaborate within and across teams.
- Collaborate on innovative database solutions
- Mentor team members to improve overall database knowledge
Requirements:
- BS / MS in Computer Science or related field
- Minimum of 3 years experience as a database engineer with increasing responsibility in designing implementing maintaining and troubleshooting complex database systems in production environments
- Minimum of 3 years of solid relational database experience
- Minimum of 3 years working with MS SQL Server Familiarity with programming languages
- Experience with database performance tuning and optimization
- Proven track record of successfully managing all stages of largescale database projects
- Ability to function well in a fastpaced dynamic environment with competing priorities
- Ability to manage all the stages of database development
- Expertise in understanding and enhancing complex database models
- Indepth knowledge of referential integrity constraints and indexing
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal
- Knowledge of Snowflake and DB2 is a plus!
