Payout will be as follows:
$5000 after successful completion of the CDOC Training Academy
$5000 after successful completion of 4 months of service
$5000 after successful completion of 8 months of service
$10000 after successful completion of 12 months of service.

Description of Job


This position is responsible for but not limited to the following:
  • Provide direct care in case of psychiatric crises or emergencies;
  • Provide 24hour oncall mental health coverage;
  • Provide mental health care to special population of inmates with mental illness developmental disabilities and high risk for suicide and self injury. Assigned cased load will consist primarily of offenders with a psychiatric needs level of P3;
  • Develop Mental Health treatment plans to serve as the basis for treatment;
  • Perform routine mental health assessments and interviews determine progress;
  • Refer clients for diagnostic clarification and/or for recommendations if presentation is complex or not responding to interventions/accommodations;
  • Facilitate consultation and collaboration to nonclinical staff in the care and treatment of inmates;
  • Review records screen evaluate inmates to assess for crises develop interventions/accommodations document contacts and write directives;
  • Assure continuity of care for inmates by making appropriate referral and providing necessary information and documentation for transition to receiving units facilities or agencies;
  • Conductmental health watch rounds;
  • Document inmate mental health records;
  • Inform inmates regarding their mental health care;
  • Promote and is accountable for the safety and security of the clinical and correctional environment;
  • This position must be willing and able to work weekends and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Competencies:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid license from the State of Colorado as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist;
  • Knowledge of and ability to conduct crisis assessment and counseling utilizing therapist manuals and protocols and agency/facility security policies;
  • Ability to effectively interact with inmates;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to read and comprehend the English language;
  • Ability to effectively communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing;
  • Ability to create accessible documents and technical content that follows plain language guidelines with accessibility in mind;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Experience providing mental health counseling in a correctional environment;
  2. Mental health counseling with the inmate population and crisis intervention experience;
  3. Experience conducting suicide risk assessments;
  4. Experience working as a member of a multidisciplinary team;
  5. Familiarity and/or training in the Colorado TBI model.
