GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Wyoming Department of Corrections is committed to public safety and high correctional standards as well as a safe supportive working environment for our employees. This position diagnoses repairs and completes all the HVAC systems preventive maintenance at the Wyoming State Penitentiary. This position will also perform general maintenance functions for all preventive maintenance and repairs needed at the facility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.- Installs adjusts troubleshoots and maintains electrical direct digital controls and electronic/pneumatic/mechanical temperature control devices on HVAC/R systems.
- Conducts routine and preventive maintenance on HVAC/R equipment.
- Provides oversight on HVAC/R projects performed by outside contractors for code compliance payments design and installation.
- Performs seasonal startup and shutdown of heating and airconditioning plants and other related equipment.
- Reads and interprets schematic drawings and diagrams that pertain to HVAC systems.
- Operates and maintains the facilitys multiple boiler rooms & appurtenances in a safe & efficient manner.
- Acts as an escort for contracted vendors on HVAC or other general maintenance issues.
- Maintains records through the AIM maintenance management software and orders spare parts.
- Plumbing includes the unplugging of sinks toilets and drains and repairing or replacing the defective parts associated with the above.
- General maintenance to include snow removal material handling cleaning up and contractor assistance.
- Supervises inmate crews to perform preventive boiler maintenance and other HVAC and general maintenance tasks.
- Tool control of shop equipment.
- Works around Hazardous and/or toxic materials.
- Be able to work oncall on a rotating basis to include occasional night and weekend hours.
- Ensures adherence to all WDOC policies and procedures.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:
Preference may be given to those with 34 years of progressive work experience in the HVAC field.
**Ability to obtain an EPA License
KNOWLEDGE:- Knowledge of refrigeration cycle refrigerants air conditioning and related air handling equipment.
- Knowledge of acceptable practices methods and tools used to install maintain and repair HVACR equipment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education:Bachelors DegreeExperience:01 year of progressive work experience (typically in HVAC) with acquired knowledge at the level of an HVAC SpecialistOREducation & ExperienceSubstitution:34 years of progressive work experience (typically in HVAC) with acquired knowledge at the level of an HVAC SpecialistCertificates Licenses Registrations:Agency may require an EPA License.Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Climbing on an occasional to regular basis
- Lifting/grasping up to 50 pounds without assistance regularly
- Walking/standing on cement floors regularly
- Walking up and down stairs regularly
- May work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
- Balancing on an occasional basis
- Stooping bending kneeling crouching regularly
- Crawling on an occasional basis
- Pushing/pulling/reaching regularly
- Speaking/hearing frequently
- Perform maintenance on equipment that may not be visible and would require being completed by feel or touch on an occasional basis
- The visual ability to operate machinery and perform mechanical or skilled trades duties
- The visual ability to determine the accuracy neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned
- Computer literate

- This position must pass a background/reference check.
