REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION LEVEL:
Bachelors or Masters degree
EXPERIENCE DESIRED:
Choral director/vocal music teacher
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires constant handeye and mindeye coordination hearing; intermittent repetitive motions with the wrists hands and fingers sitting walking talking and keyboarding. The position requires frequent lifting bending stooping pulling speaking turning grasping and carrying.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Proficiency with vocal and piano. Must exhibit leadership organization public relations and business skills. Demonstrated ability to follow Board policy.
CERTIFICATION
This position requires a valid South Dakota teaching certification with either the Secondary Music Education or K12 Vocal Music Education endorsement.
Please note endorsement requirements may vary based on specific course assignments.

Interested in becoming a contract teacher but dont hold a traditional teaching degree
The South Dakota Department of Education offers an Alternative Certification program! Individuals will take 15credits plus praxis exams while they perform their duties as a contract teacher for a South Dakota school district. Alternative Certification is available for most positions 5th grade through high school. Candidates must possess a minimum of a bachelors degree unless pursuing a CTE Instructor position.

Starting at $52233 to $58823 per year based on experience Extra Duy/Extra Pay

HOURS & FTE
Monday through Friday 7:30 am to 4:00 pm

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES
- Assists in the preparation of two major concerts per choral group each year up to 30 ensemble performances. Participates in choral festival competitions and region contests.
- Prepares students for participation in choral festival competitions and region contests.
- Assists in the preparation of students for participation in homecoming and booster club activities.
- Assists in the preparation of students for auditions rehearsals and performances of All State Honors Choir and Junior Honors Choir.
- Assists in the maintenance of the building choral music library.
- Rehearses choral sectionals combined choruses and group instruction.
- Assists in choir robe inventory including name/address/phone/parent and/or guardian of user.
- Biannually assists in the preparation of a music theater production (accompanist solo/chorus coach or choreographer) with the theater and orchestra departments.
- Assists in the collection and processing of data for the awards program.
- Assists in the selection and purchase of vocal ensemble costumes.
- Organizes and directs chorus and ensemble retreats.
- Works with the other members of the department to coordinate all activities of the choral department.
- Participates in the preparation and presentation of a Middle School Choral Festival on a three year rotation.
- Coordinates rehearsal/performance room usage with the other music directors and the Fine Arts Department Chair.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
