Job Description

Senior Paralegal to assist in the work of the

Civil Rights Division U.S. Department of Justice
Washington D.C. 20002

This position is a hybrid position with selected candidate reporting inoffice/ onsite minimum two 2 days a week. Travel may be required with prior notice and authorization up to 15 of work operations.

Pay Rate Information

This is a temporary to permanent hire Service Contract Act position with an hourly pay rate of $35.05 that includes a Health and Welfare Benefit of $4.57 an hour.

Service Contract Act or SCA position pay rates are determined by the U.S. Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division.

Upon completion of six 6 months of employment the selected candidate can expect an annual salary as a permanent fulltime employee with the federal contractor.

Current contract period: Date of Hire through May 31 2024
with the potential for annual extensions through May 31 2027
preference for placement/transfer as federal contract employee after six 6 months employment with C&C International

Normal Work Hours of Operation: MondayFriday 8:30 a.m. 5:00 p.m. 40 hours per week two 2 15minute breaks and 30minute lunch except for federal holidays unless otherwise stated

Senior Paralegal
Qualifications:
  • Requires Paralegal Certificate or Juris Doctorate
    • Minimum two 2 years of Litigation Paralegal experience required; trial experience extremely helpful
AND
    • One 1 year of experience in Automated Litigation Support eDiscovery Litigation Support and Technology
  • Requires sound working knowledge of federal and state court system legal research procedures and legal research resources.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as Lexis Nexis and Westlaw
  • Handson familiarity with a variety of computer applications including word processing databases (such as document review and file management systems) spreadsheets imaging and hardware systems.
  • Role also requires handson familiarity with Electronically Stored Information ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources i.e. Electronic Discovery Reference Model EDRM
  • Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important.
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust favorable suitability determination

Senior Paralegal
Responsibilities/Duties:
  • Works under the direction of a Supervisory Paralegal
    • Work products are reviewed prior to submission; however a Senior Paralegal often develops these products with minimal direct supervision other than written guidelines
  • Performs moderately complex legal research; synopsizes transcripts of hearings and oral arguments for attorney use
  • Reviews case related materials and identifies potentially conflicting statements or areas requiring further investigation
  • Writes preliminary drafts of simple legal memoranda and correspondence.
  • Conducts database reviews in Relativity (including coding/ redacting/ saved searches / mass tagging);
    • generate privilege logs; generates productions; communicates with opposing counsel
    • burns productions to disc or uploads to encrypted box account
    • generates witness binders; support onsite trial; interviewing aggrieved persons
    • and reviewing documents for FOIA in Relativity.
  • Provide legal and technical services to support the Department of Justice to include but not limited to:
    • forensically capturing reviewing evidence from emails and instant messages to electronic devices and social media systems
    • time and task management critical thinking and problem solving
    • the ability to communicate complicated problems in a concise manner as well as solve complex problems using available tools
