This position serves as a Certified Teacher for a PreK Counts Head Start classroom with a direct focus on children 3 to 4 years of age. The PreK Counts Certified Teacher will work collaboratively with one other teacher to ensure the operation of a classroom with a maximum of 20 children. The Certified Teacher also works with a team of other classroom teachers and family members to implement curriculum and child assessment to achieve outcomes for children of all abilities.
Job Responsibilities:
Plans written curriculum that encompass goals for childrens development and learning the experiences through which children will achieve those goals and the steps staff and parents can take to help children achieve those goals.
Creates the materials needed to support the implementation of the curriculum.
Prepares daily lesson plans tailored to childrens needs and interests that incorporate observations anecdotal record keeping and knowledge of early childhood development; posts lesson plans for parents volunteers and other visitors in the classroom.
Develops individual plans for each child including goal setting based on identified needs and prescriptions for objectives and activities to meet established child outcomes.
Implements program curriculum that provides developmentally and linguistically appropriate experiences for age language and culture of children served.
Provides experiential learning activities that advance the intellectual and emotional competence of preschool children.
Provides a printrich environment in which children develop literacy numeracy and social skills using increasingly complex language and problemsolving abilities.
Offers positive guidance and discipline to support children as they acquire readiness skills for kindergarten and beyond.
Develops individual Education Plans (IEPs) for children with disabilities; directs developmental concerns to appropriate specialist.
Provides children with a consistent classroom routine.
Provides supervision and ensures the safety and security of children at all times in accordance with Head Start and day care licensing requirements.
Supervises and eats nutritionally prepared meals with the children as a curriculum activity to model good nutrition and proper social skills for preschool children.
Supervises all classroom field trips and outdoor activities.
Operates with understanding of regulations associated with prevention of occupational disease and injury including the exercise of universal precautions and the prevention of contamination.
Encourages parent participation in staffparent conferences and home visits discussing their childs development and education; invites parent involvement in the development of the programs curriculum and approach to child development and education.
Job Requirements:
1. State Preschool Certification required from Pennsylvania.
2. CPR and First Aid certification required or ability to obtain.
3. Physical exam and background checks are required for this position.
4. Travel required locally or longdistance up to 10 of the time for workrelated meetings and functions.
5. Must have a valid drivers license and/or reliable transportation.
This is a 10month salaried position and the pay rate is $61000 annually.
