Contingent on course offerings and student demand to begin approximately Fall 2025 availability of funds and actual staffing requirements. The position may be converted from 11 to 9 months or 9 to 11 months based on operational needs.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Under general supervision coordinate and deliver instruction in Emergency Medical Services in terms of student learning outcomes; develop and/or update course content and materials and teaching and assessment strategies and methods to 1 improve learning outcomes; 2 address the learning needs of the Colleges diverse students; 3 integrate thinking and writing skills into course content where appropriate; 4 use multimedia resources including computers where appropriate.

  • Perform other teachingrelated duties that include but are not limited to preparing course syllabi and maintaining office hours for academic advising and for conferring with students about course work (one hour per week per threecredit course).

  • Regular workload may include evening and weekend classes continuing education classes distance education classes and teaching at offcampus sites to include the neighbor islands.

  • Nonteaching duties include 1 working collegially to provide service to the Department and College and 2 engaging in public service related to ones professional status and/or expertise; and in professional development and professional or scholarly activities related to ones discipline or teaching.


Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Masters in Health Sciences Biological Sciences Nursing or EMSANDcurrent EMTP certification by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians and current Hawaii certification as a MICT (or certification in progress);ORRegistered Nurse and a current Hawaii State license as an RN;

OR

  1. Bachelors in Health Sciences Biological Sciences Nursing or EMSANDthree 3 years related work experience which should include postsecondary teaching; at least one of the three years must be professional EMS (EMT or MICT) experience;ANDcurrent EMTP certification by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians and current Hawaii certification as a MICT (or certification in progress);ORRegistered Nurse and a current Hawaii State license as an RN;

OR

  1. Certification as a Paramedic;ANDa Baccalaureate degree in any fieldANDfive 5 years related work experience which should include postsecondary teaching; at least 2 of the 5 years must be professional EMS (EMT or MICT) experience AND current EMTP certification by the National Registry of Emergency Medical TechniciansANDcurrent Hawaii certification as a MICT (or certification in progress);ORRegistered Nurse and a current Hawaii State license as an RN;

OR

  1. Associate Degree in MICTANDten 10 years related work experience which should include postsecondary teaching; at least three 3 of the ten 10 years must be professional EMS (EMT or MICT) experienceANDcurrent EMTP certification by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians and current Hawaii certification as a MICT (or certification in progress);ORRegistered Nurse and a current Hawaii State license as an RN;

OR

  1. Medical DoctorANDcurrent Hawaii license as an M.D.; current ACLS instructor certification; board eligible orboard certified in emergency medicine.

Note:

  • If qualified applicants (those meeting MQs) are not available others may be considered for appointment as Acting Instructor.

  • Minimum qualifications must be met by the effective date of appointment.

Desirable Qualifications:

  1. Successful community college/universitylevel teaching as substantiated by student and peer assessments;

  2. Evidence of ability to work in a collegial manner with peers department chairs and administrators;

  3. Evidence of experience integrating writing technology and thinking skills in the teaching of EMS courses;

  4. Ability to write clear prose as substantiated by materials submitted by applicant;

  5. Successful use of technology to support instruction inside and outside of the traditional classroom;

  6. Commitment to the mission and values of the community college with its opendoor and multicultural populations;

  7. Ability to initiate execute and complete projects including setting specific objectives and measuring results.

  8. Evidence of commitment to Kapiolani Community Colleges vision of positioning itself as a model indigenous serving institution whose graduates strengthen the social economic and sustainable advancement of Hawaii and the world.
