Job Description: Senior Visual Arts Teacher/Head of Department (HOD)
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior Visual Arts Teacher/Head of Department (HOD) to lead our Visual Arts program. The ideal candidate will have extensive expertise in teaching the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) IGCSE and ICSE curricula along with proven leadership skills and a passion for fostering artistic excellence. This is a leading role that requires a strategic vision to enhance the departments standards and reputation. The candidate should hold relevant IB certifications and bring a track record of success in curriculum development and team management.
Key Responsibilities:
Department Leadership:
- Provide strategic direction and leadership for the Visual Arts department.
- Mentor and support fellow teachers ensuring professional growth and consistent teaching standards.
- Oversee the planning and implementation of the Visual Arts curriculum across IBDP IGCSE and ICSE levels.
- Lead departmental meetings and encourage collaboration among team members.
Curriculum Development and Delivery:
- Develop and refine a progressive Visual Arts curriculum that aligns with IBDP IGCSE and ICSE standards.
- Promote innovative teaching practices and interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
- Ensure the integration of IB philosophy including inquirybased and conceptual learning approaches.
Student Development:
- Guide students in producing highquality portfolios and exhibition pieces ensuring readiness for internal and external assessments.
- Support students in developing technical analytical and conceptual skills in various art forms.
- Provide leadership in organizing art exhibitions competitions and community outreach programs.
Assessment and Evaluation:
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of students and the department ensuring alignment with academic goals.
- Oversee the preparation of students for IB Visual Arts assessments IGCSE exams and other evaluations.
- Ensure high standards of assessment practices across all grade levels.
Professional Development:
- Organize and participate in workshops training sessions and conferences to stay current with best practices in art education.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth within the department.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with school leadership to align departmental goals with the institutions vision.
- Act as the primary liaison for external stakeholders including IB and IGCSE organizations.
- Collaborate with other HODs and faculty to create interdisciplinary projects and initiatives.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelors degree in Fine Arts Visual Arts or a related field (Masters degree preferred).
- IB certification in Visual Arts is mandatory.
- A minimum of 8 years of teaching experience with at least 3 years in a leadership role in IBDP IGCSE and ICSE Visual Arts curricula.
- Proven track record in curriculum development team leadership and student success in international programs.
- Excellent organizational interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong portfolio showcasing expertise in various art mediums and leadership in art education initiatives.
- Proficiency in leveraging technology for teaching assessments and departmental operations.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in coordinating largescale art events exhibitions and studentled initiatives.
- Expertise in mentoring students for university admissions in fine arts or design programs.
- Familiarity with contemporary and global art trends to enrich the learning experience.
Work Environment:
