The Department of Chemical Engineering at Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) is seeking an Undergraduate Student Research Assistant to support research on the decarbonization of biomanufacturing using technoeconomic analysis (TEA). The student will work under the supervision of faculty researchers to assess the economic feasibility and environmental impact of lowcarbon biomanufacturing processes. This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in sustainability energy systems industrial engineering economics or chemical/biological engineering.
Responsibilities:
- Perform literature reviews on decarbonization strategies bioprocess optimization and carbon footprint reduction.
- Assist in conducting technoeconomic analysis (TEA) by gathering and organizing cost energy and emissions data for biomanufacturing processes.
- Use software tools such as Excel Aspen Plus OpenLCA or other modeling tools for process simulation and economic analysis.
- Attend research team meetings and contribute to discussions.
- Perform other researchrelated tasks as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
- Presently enrolled at Prairie View A&M University for at least nine 9 graduate or six 6 undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done.
- Must be in good academic standing (SAP) as demonstrated through your college; minimum 2.0 GPA
- No prior experience necessary
- For work eligibility during a summer term a student must be enrolled for at least three 3 graduate or undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done or preregistered at least six 6 undergraduate semester hours for the fall/spring terms.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Must be a currently enrolled undergraduate student at PVAMU in a relevant field such as Chemical Engineering Mechanical Engineering Chemistry Environmental Science Economics or a related discipline.
- Coursework or experience in process modeling energy systems technoeconomic analysis or life cycle assessment (LCA).
- Previous research or internship experience in sustainability biofuels or process engineering is advantageous.
Preferred Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
- Interest in sustainability decarbonization bioeconomy or renewable energy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Other Requirements:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
