Job Description

TITLE: SUBSTITUTEBuilding Custodian

DEPARTMENT: Custodial

REPORTS TO: Custodial Shift Manager and

Director of Facilities

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School diploma or equivalency
  2. Job related experience.
  3. Excellent people skills and demonstrated ability to work with the public
  4. Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Has the ability to accomplish these operations using weight measurements volume and distance.
  5. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
  6. Ability to write supply requests and repair orders.

JOB RESPONSBILITIES:

  1. To maintain and insure a clean safe and attractive environment for the studentsstaff and public.
  2. To set up for extra activities in your respective area or to assist other staff in setting up for extra activities as directed by the Shift Supervisor Director of Facilities or Building Principal and to be the point of contact for the public during the use of district facilities.
  3. To provide suggestions for ongoing improvement to and efficiency of the custodialoperations.
  4. When assigned to carry a district provided cell phone to communicate with other custodians other school personnel and those using the facilities.
  5. To receive unload distribute (as directed) and sign for material deliveries to the district
  6. To keep sidewalks and emergency exits clear of snow debris and obstacles while the buildings are in use.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:

Sensory Abilities:

  1. Visual acuity to be able to see when areas are clean and to read and follow label directions correspondence etc.
  2. Ability to detect the smell of foul and/or hazardous odors.
  3. Depth perception to be able to judge distance from objects.
  4. Ability to see/hear fire alarm signal and area of rescue assistance alarms.
  5. Fine and Gross motor coordination.

Temperament:

  1. Demonstrated ability to perform routine tasks repeatedly and to the satisfaction of immediate supervisor.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team.
  3. Must be courteous and able to deal effectively with the public that use the facilities.
  4. Must be cooperative and serviceoriented.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to;

  1. The employee must be able to stand; walk; use hands and finger to handle or feel objects tools or controls; and talk or hear.
  2. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms.
  3. The employee is occasionally required to sit.
  4. The employee frequently must squat stoop or kneel reach above the head and reach forward.
  5. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climbs on to ladders.
  6. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.
  7. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as custodial supplies and pails while unloading trucks.
  8. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 90 lbs such as salt and bulk furniture.
  9. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as scrubbers tables bleachers.
  10. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job;

  1. The employee regularly works indoors and will occasionally work outdoors.
  2. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment.
  3. The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products degreases and sprays.
  4. The employees will continually expose their hands arms and other body parts to water and water / detergent combinations.
  5. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
  6. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Ability to work on all size ladders.
  2. Must have a valid Pa. Drivers license and have the ability to drive all district vehicles excluding school buses.
  3. Ability to perform minor repairs.
  4. Ability to clean and to differentiate clean surfaces form dirty surfaces.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Responsible for the regular ongoing custodial care of all school office athletic facilities and grounds in the assigned area.
  2. Meets schedules of work for individual sections of the building and sees to it that proper supplies are on hand for the proper care of the facilities.
  3. Reviews the weekly building schedule so as to insure that required setup and cleanup for activities are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  4. Performs summer cleaning of buildings according to schedules developed by the Custodial Supervisor along with the Director of Facilities.
  5. May be assigned to the floor crew for a program of cleaning and refinishing floors.
  6. Responsible for minor inschool repairs and emergency repairs as assigned.
  7. Responsible for replacement of four foot and u bend fluorescent lamps in the assigned area of responsibility.
  8. Completes custodial help desk requests in the area of responsibility.
  9. Maintains an inventory of supplies in the assigned custodial closet to be turned in monthly to the Custodial Shift Manager.
  10. Strives constantly to promote the safety health and comfort of the students and employees.
  11. Performs custodial tasks at the prescribed intervals as defined on the attached job matrix.
  12. Other duties as requested by the Custodial Supervisor or the Director of Facilities.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Substitute Custodian Rate $14.00/hr.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of

the Boards policy on Evaluation of Support Services Per
