Audiologist Job Responsibilities
The pediatric audiologist is responsible for evaluating hearing and treating hearing loss in children birth to twentyone years of age. The pediatric audiologist will effectively manage hearing loss for optimal communication outcomes as well as academic success and will make appropriate rehabilitation and educational recommendations based on the individual needs of each child. Pediatric audiologists at THI collaborate closely with the Melinda Webb School and the Speech Therapy Clinic.
Skills
Provide audiologic services (assessment and management)to a pediatric population
Complete ageappropriate diagnostic audiologicalevaluations including tympanometry acoustic reflex testing and
otoacoustic emissions
Complete electrophysiologic testing (Sedated andNonSedated ABR)
Complete hearing aid evaluations hearing aid fittingsas well as hearing aid troubleshooting and minor repairs
Knowledge of cochlear implant and bone anchored hearingdevices; provide appropriate recommendations
Working knowledge of speech acoustics as it relates tospoken language development
Complete cochlear implant candidacy assessments
Complete Hearing Assistive Technology (HAT) system selectionfitting and troubleshooting
Provide education to parents teachers and otherprofessionals working with children with hearing loss
Participate in the development of evidencebasedprotocols and guidelines
Maintain accurate complete and timely documentation
Physical Demands:
Stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; talk; hear; ableto lift 15 pounds; able to endure outdoor temperatures for camp supervision orspecial events.
Qualifications andExperience:
Doctorate in Audiology (Au.D. required from an accredited college oruniversity.
Certificateof Clinical Competency (CCC) in Audiology and/or Board Certification from theAmerican Academy of Audiology
ValidTexas state audiology license or ability to obtain one prior to start date
3Years of pediatric audiology experience preferred
