HUMS 1770 (sections 01 and/or02 Introduction to Human Service Practice with Indigenous Communities.
Students examine the historical and continuing process of colonization in Canada and the resulting societal political linguistic spiritual and cultural impacts that are challenging Indigenous peoples today. The development of cultural understanding and the beginning of culturally competent practice occur in this course. Additional topics include selfgovernment cultural healing and empowerment and human service practice in Indigenous peoples communities.
Doctoral degree with an MSW preferred MSW with specialized theoretical content knowledge will also be considered
Successful teaching experience in postsecondary institutions preferred
A minimum of five years of related practice experience and educational specialization for content specific courses
Excellent organizational interpersonal and communication skills
Availability to teach at the scheduled times
Demonstrated experience in integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62
Proven skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding empathy and mutual respect (TRC CA 63
Teaching excellence including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA 10
Skills and experience in Secwepemc language(s) and culture(s) is required
Experience in Indigenous curriculum development relevant to Secwepemc is an asset
