Description

Join our dynamic manufacturing team as a Manufacturing Engineer Intern where youll gain handson experience working alongside experienced engineers and technicians on realworld projects by:

  • Undertaking any tasks as requested by members of staff and as approved by Mentor or Manager
  • Assist in design data collection analysis and other administrative/engineering duties.
  • Incorporate academic knowledge into handson work.
  • Helping to ensure projects are completed on time.

PrimaryDuties & Responsibilities

  1. Phase1:Willlearnaboutbasicopticsmanufacturingviaaguidedwalkthoughofall departments.
  2. Phase 2: Will learn basic manufacturing engineering tasks such as writing and maintaining manufacturing process plans (Routers) detailed work instructions and BillsofMaterials(BOMs)forusebyoperationspersonnelforthedevelopmentand production of Coherent A&D products. Will learn to prepare and implement correct manufacturing process support documentation (RCN ECO NOR IIVI OS drawings SMP and other special procedures) as needed. Will assist in setting up Cumulus which is Coherents Manufacturing System (MES).
  3. Phase3:WillfurtherlearnengineeringdesignandCAD/CAMskillsthroughbasic tool design and fabricate via orders to the machine shop or via 3D printing
  4. Phase4:Participateinengineeringmeetingsanddiscussionstofurtherenhance working with other engineers and personnel.

Education & Experience

Mustbeenrolledincollegelevelcourseswithamajorinanengineeringprogram(industrial optical or mechanical engineering preferred). Interestinopticsopticalfabricationandmanufacturingand/ormaterialsstronglydesired. Experience with working in a team environment on a specific project a plus.

Skills

  1. Strong verbalandwrittentechnicalcommunicationskills.
  2. ComputerskillsinwordprocessingandspreadsheetsoftwareincludingMSWordExcel PowerPoint Project.
  3. Capable of reading engineering drawings and will have to familiarize with ANSI/ASME Y14. 5M.
  4. CAD/CAM skillis desired.Solidworks/Surfcamis preferred.
  5. Familiarity with3Dprintersis a plus.
  6. Skillswithbasicmachineshopandinspectionequipmentaplus(drillingmachinegrinder caliper micrometer).
  7. Knowledgeof processdesigndevelopmentandtechnicalplanningis desired.
  8. Strong analyticalandproblemsolvingskillsis desired.
  9. Strong organizationalskillsandattentionto detailsrequired.
  10. Willingto learnnewskillsandenthusiasmto experiencea manufacturingenvironment

Working Conditions

Job generally operates in a professional office environment. Routine use of computers phones copy machines ECT. Work on the production floor can range in a noise level from moderate to loud.
