The National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLSII) offers scientific and industrial researchers an array of instruments (beamlines) using xray ultraviolet and infrared light to enable discoveries in clean and affordable energy hightemperature superconductivity molecular electronics and more. The facility enables the study of material properties and functions with nanoscale resolution and exquisite sensitivity by providing worldleading capabilities for Xray imaging and highresolution energy analysis. The NSLSII supports an international user community of over 2200 researchers from 400 universities.

The Optics Group at the National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLSII) is actively seeking an ElectroMechanical Technical Associate to support the daily operation of its Research and Development (R&D) labs. Aligned with NSLSIIs strategic objectives the Optics Group plays an important role in advancing highspatialresolution imaging and highcoherentflux scattering by employing cuttingedge optical design and modeling subnanometerlevel metrology and diffractionlimited Xray mirror fabrication techniques. With considerable latitude for the exercise of initiative and judgment the successful candidate will perform duties of a technician for the maintenance troubleshooting testing and upgrade of UHV deposition chambers and thin films characterization equipment in support of NSLSII optics group operations. The main task will be to maintain the large R&D deposition system and will require ability to troubleshoot and identify sources of failure and mitigate corrective action. Additionally the candidate will also support the maintenance and troubleshooting of 2 smaller UHV chambers one dedicated to Ion Beam Figuring and a new compact deposition/etching chamber (under development). The candidate will work on a varied set of scientific equipment including UHV systems cryogenics power supplies motion control systems and machine automation. This position will require close interaction with scientific staff.

Brookhaven National Laboratory is committed to providing fair equitable and competitive compensation. This is a multilevel role and the full salary range for this position is $81000 $115000 / year. You will be placed at the level and salary commensurate with your experience. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidates qualification education and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
